In Persian culture we name this night as "Yalda".
It is said that this night was named after the name of a Persian girl with long black hair with the same name. Her long black hair is a symbol of the longest night of the year.
At this special night we gather together and read ancient Persian poetry called "Shahnameh" or "The Story of Kings". Some read the poems of the famous Persian poet Hafez.
This night gathering is an old Persian tradition which we celebrate and are proud of our rich, ancient civilization and culture.
