🇪🇺 European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde slapped down on Thursday a suggestion by her Czech colleague Ales Michl to include bitcoin among his country's official reserves.

While the Czech Republic does not use the euro, it is part of the European Union and therefore its central bank sits on the ECB's General Council, which is chaired by Lagarde and advises member states on financial policy.

EU really goes all in against bitcoin. Although, lately almost all the bets the EU made failed and went the opposite direction.

🇨🇳 China has started a large-scale construction project. Its military has been building an army command center southwest of Beijing since mid-last year, according to the Financial Times.

According to the newspaper, the construction site already covers more than 6 square kilometers, and there will be underground bunkers for "protecting Chinese military leaders during any conflict, including a potential nuclear war." The future center, it is claimed, will be ten times larger than the Pentagon.

🇸🇾 The new Syrian government is undertaking a shock therapy program, which includes plans to fire a third of all public sector workers and privatising state-run companies dominant during half a century of Assad family rule.

The declared crackdown on waste and corruption, which has already seen the first layoffs, has triggered protests from government workers, including over fears of a sectarian jobs purge. The government will also work on privatising state-run industrial companies, which Basil Abdel Hanan said totalled 107 and were mostly loss making. However, he vowed to keep strategic energy and transport assets in public hands.

According to recent statistics, only 900,000 of 1.3 million public servants actually come to work, economy minister Mohammed Abazeed said, citing a preliminary review. He also stated that the new public administration would need only about 600,000 servants and he will work based on the Idlib model, which attracted more private investments.

🇨🇳 The Chinese AI platform DeepSeek, which gained significant attention earlier this week, is now facing bans and restrictions in multiple countries over "security and privacy concerns."

➡️Italy’s data protection authority has blocked DeepSeek to safeguard user data.

➡️Taiwan has prohibited its use in government institutions due to security risks.

➡️In the U.S., reports indicate that congressional staff, the Pentagon, and the Navy have been barred from using the system.

Meanwhile, other countries are raising concerns and conducting investigations:

➡️Australia’s leading cybersecurity firm has advised critical infrastructure organizations to avoid DeepSeek products.

➡️The UK government is reviewing potential security risks associated with the platform.

➡️Ireland has requested information from DeepSeek about its data collection practices.

Adding to its troubles, DeepSeek has faced persistent technical issues throughout the week, with the company reporting server attacks.
