Network Upgrade
Wed, 12 Sep 2018 00:00:00 UTC is the estimated time for block height 580,000 at which the network will undergo an upgrade.

All those running MBC nodes MUST update to the latest daemon version 0.16.2 which can be found in the official repository.

Android Wallet Users
Please BACKUP your recovery phrase, check the guide in #android-wallet-guide so that you can RESTORE your wallet in the upcoming new wallets.

❗ The current Android wallet WILL BE DEPRECATED and transactions WILL NOT WORK after the network upgrade at block height 580,000.
❗ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BACKUP YOUR RECOVERY PHRASE !!!. We are not responsible for ANY loss due to this upgrade.

This network update will fix the reply protection issue spotted by ymgve, one of our open source community contributors. MicroBitcoin is also going to switch to LWMA2 difficulty algorithm, that would bring more stable timespan between blocks and make the network more resistant to attacks.

This update is scheduled at Block height 591,000 🙂

Network Upgrade Success
Ladies and Gentlement, MicroBitcoin (MBC) network has been upgraded and is in motion. The devs have been hard at work and we have a better and safer network running!
The upgrade includes a new LWMA2 difficulty algorithm implementation, which helps smoothen difficulty changes and faster response to network attacks. More details on the algorithm will be posted in later date.

Wallets
Anticipated wallets are really close to release so please be sure to have your seed phrases backed up, see #android-wallet-guide to backup the first version of the android wallet.

Updates
After a successful network upgrade the devs are continuing to work on making the new wallets work on the updated network.
The adoption of a new difficulty adjustment algorithm as well as the fixed replay protection are vital entries to keep the network safe and for transactions to be more secure.

Wallets
The Web Wallet will probably be the first release as it can be used in the internet browser (also on both iOS and Android).
As for Android and iOS wallets, they will be available for download from the respective appstores after their approval from Google and Apple.
If devs can make it possible, the APK and iOS install files may be available as well but it would be cool if it's on the appstores 😎

Block Reward Halving
Following up, we'd like to update everyone on the halving situation. MicroBitcoin being a hard fork has inherited Bitcoin core's halving intervals which occurs every 210,000 blocks. In order to match MicroBitcoin's 1 block per minute, the interval will be prolonged by 10 folds AFTER the next halving period, which is at block height 630,000. The reward will also be halved from 12,500 to 6,250 MBC per block.
The halving estimated date is 16 October 2018, and after that the intervals will be every 2,100,000 blocks which will be at block height 2,730,000.

Max and Circulating Supply
The explorer has been updated to include the Max and Circulating supply of MicroBitcoin.

Halving Update

Fellow community members, we'd like to make amends to the recent announcement regarding the height number at which the next mining reward halving will take place.
The next mining reward halving will occur at Block Height 1,574,991 instead of the previous mention of 630,000.
The calculation was done again after reviews and had shown to be at the height of 1,574,991 instead.
We apologize for the previous announcement regarding this matter.

Definitions
Protocol: a set of rules governing the exchange or transmission of data between devices.
Application: a program or piece of software designed and written to fulfill a particular purpose of the user.

MicroBitcoin is a protocol that has its own set of rules to fit in such a way that transactions can suffice in the micro-economy.
Wallets, Explorers, and Address Converters are applications that help a user interact with peers on the network using the MicroBitcoin protocol.

In plain simple English, email is like a protocol and we use applications like Gmail to send them.

Protocol is not Application. Many make the mistake of understanding the underlying definition and think that both are the same. Infact, MicroBitcoin is an implementation of the Bitcoin protocol, so is Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold.
