Buona domenica.

Money quote: “Birnbaum — a political consultant who has worked in the US, Israel, Hungary, and across the Balkans — had agreed to talk for the first time about his role in the creation of the Soros bogeyman, which ended up unleashing a global wave of anti-Semitic attacks on the billionaire investor. But he also wanted to defend his work, and that of his former mentor and friend, Arthur Finkelstein.”

Money quote: "So, next time you think you know what your significant other is or is not, or will or will not do, make sure you leave wiggle room for surprises. With an open mind you may be positively surprised."

Money quote: "Donald Trump’s fast-food catering was an inevitable result of the government shutdown, which has left federal employees furloughed—including, presumably, the White House kitchen staff".

Money quote: "In short, we’ve reached a point in the Mueller probe where there are only two scenarios left: Either the president is compromised by the Russian government and has been working covertly to cooperate with Vladimir Putin after Russia helped win him the 2016 election — or Trump will go down in history as the world’s most famous “useful idiot,” as communists used to call those who could be co-opted to the cause without realizing it.

At least the former scenario — that the president of the United States is actively working to advance the interests of our country’s foremost, long-standing, traditional foreign adversary — would make him seem smarter and wilier. The latter scenario is simply a tragic farce for everyone involved."

Money quote: "One of the points Allison made repeatedly on that call (and in this wonderful blog post of the same time period) was that the camera is going to be at the center of computing going forward, an indispensable element. Spatial computing could not exist without it. Simple, obvious, straightforward, but not earth shaking. We all heard what she had to say, but I don’t think any of us really understood just how profound or prophetic that statement turned out to be."

Money quote: "A useless day, the writer tells themselves. No money earned. Nothing accomplished. They fear pitching that same editor again so quickly because two declines in a row would really fuck with their self worth. So they wait, trying to think of another idea for a story. A shittier one perhaps? With more obvious potential to be clickable? They read what’s having success on a number of sites they’d like to pitch to see where the editorial vision is pointing at the moment. It very well may not be where it was yesterday. At no point in the hours entailed here is the writer being paid, nor is there any guarantee they ever will be."

Money quote: "There is nothing wrong with wanting to turn your passion in to a successful career. But if all you’re doing it for is because of the money, maybe money is your passion. I would write for free, I think most creators love what they do so much that they are doing exactly that with a job to support themselves and their families. Writing is what I love to do, I write for most of my life and most of the time its free. I don’t get paid to edit my novel or write short stories. I write for the pleasure of writing, because the world is calmer and bigger when I finish a project. Any creator who must be paid to create is not in the business of creating, they are in the business of money making. What ever you do with your life, make sure it’s what you want, make sure it’s a dream rather than a harsh reality."
