Brillante e fulminante saggio di Susan Sontag su Anna Banti e il suo romanzo "Artemisia", ma anche sulla guerra, Firenze violata, i tedeschi che fanno saltare i ponti mentre si ritirano, la casa che crolla e distrugge tra le altre cose il manoscritto del romanzo (che Banti riscriverà nei tre anni successivi) e una serie di altre cose terribili e meravigliose.

Letture per la domenica
Forse è arrivato il momento che ci chiediamo davvero come saremmo se non ci fosse stata la Commedia umana di Honoré de Balzac. Vivremmo un mondo povero, più piccolo, privo di realismo nello sguardo e nell'intenzione. Eppure, di tutta la sua opera, se anche ne abbiamo letto qualcosa è solo poca cosa. Peccato.
Money quote: "Se Balzac è sconfinato dal punto di vista delle pagine scritte, il suo genere non è il poema bensì il romanzo di costume e la satira sociale. Perché sugli aerei il segnale del divieto di fumare è del tipo che si può spegnere?
È una funzione superflua, visto che non ci sono momenti in cui si può fumare, ma dipende da come sono cambiati i regolamenti nel tempo
Ho tradotto in italiano un libro: si tratta di Sistemi nascosti di Dan Nott. Mi ha insegnato un sacco di cose sui grandi sistemi che sono diventati la piattaforma delle nostre vite. È un libro a fumetti fatto molto bene e notevole, davvero. Ne parlo anche in Mostly Weekly che esce domani.
