Likewise, Zach stood up at the end of their meal to wax on about the very same thing… how lucky they are to be on such beautiful land with such fresh food and soil that helps them stay so healthy.
A man at the table let him finish before he stood up and said that all the organic food and soil in the world has nothing to do with it.
At the end of the day, it comes back to their community. To their love, openness, and deep welcoming of relationship. Their willingness to invite a stranger for a meal, knowing they’ll be better off than they were before due to the diversity of thought and connection that being human brings.
A reminder that no matter how hard we try to look for answers outside of ourselves, no matter how much we try to study single compounds or medicines or the soil or find the “one thing” externally that will fix it all for us, the answers have always been within us. Within the health of our relationships and our connection to the world around us.
“The soils will recover, they’ll do their thing, they’ll create the new world, they’ll birth new things we can’t even dream of. But until we are eager enough and curious enough to set an empty chair hoping somebody we never met sits with us, we won’t actually solve the human condition.”
