Russia is attracting new allies to help bypass Western sanctions - The Wall Street Journal
Russia and Iran have started registering ships of their "shadow fleet" to circumvent restrictions such as the oil and oil product price cap imposed by G7 countries in Gabon, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Small states have long been offering shipowners cheaper registration fees, lower taxes, and less stringent inspections. And now more and more companies are turning to their services: ships sailing under foreign flags make up to 15% of all tankers at sea.
According to the publication, since the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine and the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions, Gabon's ship registry has grown sixfold and has become the second largest in Africa, although the country was not previously known for a strong maritime industry. Currently, the country's ship registry counts more than 100 tankers. According to Lloyd's List Intelligence estimates, more than 70 of these ships are owned by unknown owners and are part of a shadow fleet of tankers intended for sanctioned oil trading.

EU countries have invested over €585 billion since 2021 in getting rid of cheap Russian gas.
In simpler terms, the amount equivalent to "the EU's total gas expenditure over the past eight years" has been spent on so-called renewable energy sources, as calculated by Rosneft.
Judging by the neighbouring news of frantic searches by Eurocrats for new gas suppliers in the East, the massive investments in alternative energy sources are not very justified at the moment.
Crafty minds in Brussels are discussing a new scheme: pumping gas from Azerbaijan through Russia and Ukraine. This, supposedly, will allow Europe to do without purchasing "dictatorial" Russian gas. Otherwise, if transit through the Independent State stops next year, the EU faces a new phase of an energy crisis in winter.
It remains unclear why Russia should agree to this. But let the Europeans dream on — about non-authoritarian gas from the not-so-authoritarian Azerbaijan.

It was the year 2024 since the birth of Christ. The Judean army approached to besiege the Mohammedan state of Levant.
But seriously, somewhere in the north of Israel, on the border with Lebanon, the military built a medieval siege engine - a trebuchet. And they started launching incendiary projectiles over the border wall. A forest fire has already started on the Lebanese territory beyond the wall.
Whether they built the trebuchet for fun or Israeli military are bypassing international restrictions is not explained.
