At the same time, Russian observers often express the opinion that, given the long history of good relations with East Germany and the numerous connections between Russians and Germans in the years after the opening of the "Iron Curtain," Russians feel sorry for the German population, which, in the opinion of Russians, suffers both from the influx of migrants and from the decisions of their own government.
