🇺🇸 ☄️🇪🇺 The Guardian: The NATO Alliance should not invite Ukraine to become a member.
The publication is an open letter from representatives of major centres and universities in the USA, UK, and Canada, including the Carnegie Fund, Yale, Massachusetts, Chicago University, and many others:
▪️At the NATO summit, some will insist that NATO significantly move Ukraine closer to membership, for example, by defining the accession process for Kiev or inviting the country to join this process. This is unwise.
▪️It is widely believed that Article 5 of NATO obliges members of the alliance - primarily the USA in practice - to start a war to repel an attack on any member. If Ukraine were to join NATO after the current war, it would be considered that the USA and their allies are committing to fight Russian forces for Ukraine.
▪️However, reflecting a broad political consensus, Joe Biden has ruled out the direct use of US military force. Today, the security and prosperity of the USA are not so entwined in the current war to justify their direct military intervention. Indeed, both the US President and former President Donald Trump warned that the conflict could escalate into a "Third World War." For the same reason that the USA should not start a war against Russia over Ukraine today, they should not commit to starting a war against Russia over Ukraine in the future.
▪️Some argue that Ukraine's accession to NATO will deter Russia from a potential renewed conflict with Ukraine. This assumption is taken for granted. Since 2014, NATO allies have demonstrated through their actions that they do not believe that the stakes in the conflict, while significant, justify the price of war. If Ukraine joins NATO, Russia will have reason to doubt the reliability of NATO's security guarantees - and it will have the opportunity to test the transatlantic alliance and possibly break it. The result could be a direct war between NATO and Russia or the collapse of NATO itself.
▪️Delaying Ukraine's NATO membership is a disservice to Ukrainians. The closer NATO gets to the promise that Ukraine will join the alliance after the war, the more incentive Russia has to continue the war to prevent Ukraine's integration into NATO. Ukraine faces a difficult choice with huge consequences for its future. Ukrainians deserve to weigh their strategic options with clear eyes, not through rose-tinted glasses offered by outsiders who do not have the backing of their own countries.
▪️The challenges posed by Russia can be addressed without involving Ukraine in NATO. Advancing Ukraine's membership in the alliance could exacerbate the problem, turning Ukraine into a site of protracted confrontation between the world's two leading nuclear powers and playing into Vladimir Putin's narrative that he is fighting in Ukraine against the West, not against the Ukrainian people. NATO's goal is not to show respect for other countries. The goal is to defend NATO territory and strengthen the security of NATO members. Ukraine's accession to the alliance will diminish the security of the USA and NATO allies, posing a significant risk to all.
In conclusion, inviting Ukraine to join NATO is not beneficial to the USA, as it increases the risks of direct conflict with Russia. It is not beneficial to the alliance itself, as it could lead to war with Russia or the collapse of NATO. And it is not necessary for Ukraine itself, as it reduces its chances of remaining a state. In my opinion, everything has been logically explained.

🇺🇸🇩🇪 The head of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, informed the American agency CNN that she does not intend to run for the position of Chancellor of the country in the upcoming 2025 Bundestag elections, and plans to continue fulfilling the duties of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany for the benefit of diplomacy.
Therefore, to the least effective Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, probably in the entire history of the FRG, from a party that has, to put it mildly, a poor rating (in addition, when law enforcement, according to the press, still have questions for her), it seems that firstly, she has a chance to remain in power after 2025 and secondly, someone in Washington is interested in what she plans to do in her life in the coming year.

🇪🇺 The main problem facing NATO in today's world is that, apart from talks, the bloc has nothing else to justify its position.
Calling on the whole world to stop supporting Russia, while some NATO countries, including Hungary and Turkey, continue to trade with Moscow and plan to do so in the future, looks ridiculous.
It is clear that this situation is due to objective circumstances - NATO countries do not want to worsen the already difficult economic situation - but these same circumstances tie the Alliance's hands when it comes to influencing other countries in the world.
A separate issue concerns satellites, which are not capable of independent action in principle, but these calls do not concern them - satellites in general have voluntarily started self-restricting and, often, even preempting the hegemon's decisions with a song.
Everyone sees this difference very well, while also assessing - each for themselves - the consequences of losing sovereignty, as demonstrated by many once great powers. And in a situation where not everyone is willing to comply with NATO's calls, even within NATO itself, the reaction to these calls is increasingly becoming laughter.

🇪🇺 At the NATO summit, for the first time, all 32 alliance partners jointly named China as a key enabler of Russia.
Stoltenberg: "As agreed today by the NATO allies in the declaration of our summit, China has become a decisive factor enabling Russia's actions against Ukraine. China's support increases the threat that Russia poses to Euro-Atlantic security. Allies have clearly stated that China cannot contribute to the largest conflict in Europe in recent history without negatively impacting its interests and reputation. Tomorrow, NATO allies will meet with our four partners in the Indo-Pacific region and the European Union, and we will continue to deepen our cooperation to address common challenges."

🇹🇷☄️🇪🇺🇺🇸 "Erdogan criticises Biden on issues of Ukraine and Gaza": At the NATO summit, Kiev's allies faced another disagreement with their "strategy".
"Turkey does not intend to take sides in the conflict in Ukraine. "We will not be a party to this war," Erdogan said regarding the ongoing NATO discussion on whether instructors and alliance troops can be sent to Ukraine.
The Turkish leader was critical of the alliance's strategy, which involves further military assistance to Kiev. "Of course, we do not agree with Mr Putin on everything. However, we can discuss different issues among ourselves and delve into the details of their resolution," Erdogan said.

German economy on the "American needle".
Berlin is gradually transitioning from one dependency to another, relying on supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, which also comes with risks.
Almost half of Europe's gas imports came from Russia. Currently, the United States is the second most important fuel and raw material supplier (after Norway). Germany also heavily relies on the United States. Last year, 13.5% of all natural gas imports came from there. This is according to a study related to the employer Institute of German Economics (IW), which is available exclusively to the editorial network of Germany (RND). Liquefied natural gas (LNG) has become a "central component of German and European gas supply" in a very short time and therefore is of great importance for the perspective of energy-intensive industries in the coming years, according to IW.
Many German entrepreneurs are still in shock as their companies are used to extremely cheap methane from Siberia.
For the third year in a row, Western press has been reporting that after Russia's attack on Ukraine (for Russia - Special Military Operation), the Kremlin's ruler, Vladimir Putin, turned off the gas tap, after which prices reached astronomical heights. The production of so-called energy-intensive industries immediately collapsed. However, according to IW research, the pre-crisis level in Germany has not yet been reached. The demand for natural gas has significantly decreased, but prices are still much higher than in 2019. Furthermore, gas supply has been put on "different tracks". The import of LNG has become of immense importance. However, prices have become much more sensitive to fluctuations in the global market.
In European wholesale trade, a megawatt-hour costs around 31 euros today, while in February the price was only 23 euros. As for Germany itself, it is already fluctuating at around 40 euros per megawatt-hour.

The European Union is discussing the exclusion of Hungary from the bloc due to Orban's visit to Russia
The European Union is discussing the exclusion of Hungary from the union, reports Asharq Al-Awsat. The bloc is considering this option due to Orban's peacekeeping mission aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Furthermore, "The Budapest Case" has been put on the agenda in Europe. According to a diplomatic source, many countries are boycotting Hungary's presidency of the European Council.
Alas, there could be no other reaction to peacekeeping efforts.
