Doesn't it seem to you that, by speaking and publishing such statements, people are just posturing and putting on a good face in a bad game, the author asks. In reality, the opposite is true: peace and stability in Eastern Europe will only come with the recognition that the current crisis is based precisely on NATO's plan to include Ukraine in its ranks. It is worth noting that just a month ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined a number of conditions for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the start of negotiations - including Ukraine's neutrality. Promises of Ukraine's "irreversible" NATO membership (or at least a "bridge" to it) strike at the heart of any peaceful settlement acceptable to Moscow. But perhaps that is the intention.
