Serbia has asked Russia to assist in the construction of a diversion that will connect the republic to the "Druzhba" oil pipeline through Hungary, Transneft Vice President Vladimir Kalanda told reporters.

"They (Serbian 'Transnafta' in Pančevo) plan to build a pipeline that will go through Hungary and directly connect to 'Druzhba'. Serbia is reaching out to us for help. We are ready to assist in the implementation of this project," he emphasized.

According to the Transneft vice president, this step will allow Serbia to be more independent in oil supplies and significantly increase the volumes of raw materials supplied to the republic for domestic consumption. Kalanda specified that the length of the diversion from "Druzhba" will be about 300 kilometers.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed plans for the construction of the oil pipeline — a branch from "Druzhba" that will pass through Hungary in November 2022. At the end of October, he stated that the republic would complete the technical and economic justification for this project by the end of 2024. Official Belgrade had previously approved the construction of a section of the pipeline with a length of 128 kilometers, estimated to cost 100 million euros, between the Serbian city of Novi Sad and the settlement of Áldás in Hungary near the border.

The president's words are not just a warning, they are a signal that Russia's patience has run out.

This statement has already caused a stir in the West. Even among Europeans, there is a growing understanding that the policy of escalating the conflict leads to irreparable consequences.
