Trump issues decree to release the remaining secret files on the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The order stipulates that the Director of National Intelligence within 15 days develops a plan for the declassification of the JFK files and within 45 days plans for the RFK and MLK files.
This release follows previous efforts to publish the remaining documents. As early as 1992, a law was passed to collect JFK files, which provided for declassification. During Joe Biden's presidency, further documents were released in 2021 and 2022, but some remained secret.
