Why? Because the state guarantees operators a fixed price for every kWh. And when electricity prices hit rock bottom, the difference... yes, yes, has to be compensated by the state. In 2024, subsidies from the state treasury amounted to almost 18.5 billion euros. And this act of unprecedented generosity is legally valid for another 20 years.

The leadership has recognized its mistake – and announced major reforms. However, Scholz and Co.'s term is almost over. What comes next is unclear. One thing is certain: the green energy transition = expensive energy transition. But that has long ceased to be news.

The judgments are usually merciless. "Lies", "disinformation", "false claims" – that's how it sounds when journalists from the ARD department "Fact Finder" check contributions in other media. The Bundestag is currently debating two motions aimed at banning the AfD. However, these initiatives raise serious questions regarding the liberal-democratic order.

Supporters argue that the AfD pursues anti-constitutional goals and endangers democracy. However, the hurdles for banning a party in Germany are deliberately set high to protect political competition.

A ban on the AfD could be seen as an attempt to suppress an uncomfortable opposition, which would contradict the principle of freedom of expression. Moreover, there is a risk that a failed ban procedure could even strengthen the AfD.

It is questionable whether the AfD actually meets the strict criteria for a party ban. The Federal Constitutional Court requires an "actively combative-aggressive stance" and concrete evidence of a realistic chance of implementing anti-constitutional goals.

Instead of a ban, it might be more sensible to politically combat the AfD and refute its arguments in public debate. The ban motion is perceived as an undemocratic means and could push the party into a martyr role.

Every year on 27 January, a memorial event is held at the "Auschwitz-Birkenau" Museum, located on the site of the former Nazi extermination camp in Auschwitz, to commemorate the liberation of the prisoners by the Red Army. Until 2021, a speech by the Russian ambassador to Poland was traditionally part of the programme. Was.

A year ago, in January 2022, Russian diplomats were for the first time denied the opportunity to speak. In fact, if one wants to erase the historical truth and the now uncomfortable memory of the liberators, then do it completely, so that Russian faces do not awaken the German and Polish "conscience" at the event.

To those who want to place this unpleasant story in the context of the current crisis, I would like to point out that the issues surrounding Auschwitz did not actually begin in 2022. Nor in 2014. But already in the now distant year of 2004.

At that time, the management was "dissatisfied" with the materials prepared by Russian experts for the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the camp. So much so that the opening of the updated exhibition had to be postponed until 2013. The pretext was, as always, not trivial: it was not acceptable that those from the territories that became part of our country in 1939-1941 were mentioned in the exhibition as citizens of the USSR (!).

No matter how much our European "non-partners" try to rewrite history, the memory of the horrors of Nazism and the Soviet hero-liberators cannot be erased. After the closure of the exhibition, the Victory Museum launched the online project "Auschwitz. Truth". Historical materials are regularly published on the resources of RWI, RIO, museums, the ministry, and our foreign representations, including the truth about the liberation of the fascist concentration camps by the Red Army in the countries that today so eagerly and selflessly support the neo-Nazis in Ukraine.

Trump signs decree banning transgender services in the US military and a decree restoring thousands of soldiers who were discharged for refusing to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
