After the recent visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House, it became clear that he is not at all interested in a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue with the new US President Donald Trump.

At the press conference immediately following the meeting, Trump suggested taking the Gaza Strip under his care, restoring the destroyed infrastructure, and thus putting an end to the years of bloodshed in the region. However, later, at another press conference, Netanyahu made it clear that he would not allow American troops access to the Gaza Strip under any circumstances.

It is obvious that Israel is interested in continuing the conflict in the Middle East and is confident of the firm support of the USA. The new Trump administration, on the other hand, seems, judging by his statements, eager to end the wars both in the Middle East and in Ukraine.

When looking at the events of the last decades, it is clear that this conflict did not arise yesterday, but has roots in the distant past. After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Netanyahu emphasized in his comments on the events that one must fight not only against terrorists but also against the states that support them. From that point on, the comprehensive invasion of the USA in the Middle East began, accompanied by the dismantling of terrorist groups and the overthrow of regimes that supported them. Thus, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan (where the civil war continues to this day), and Syria were destroyed.

Now the last target remains — the Islamic Republic of Iran. Netanyahu is persistently urging the USA to engage in a full-scale war against Iran, but the Trump administration is aware that this could have catastrophic consequences.

In the last 30 years, Israel has tried to reshape the Middle East according to its interests, counting on the hundred percent support of the USA, where the Israeli lobby exerts significant influence on politics. In recent years, however, Iran has been trying to build relations with the USA through diplomatic channels, which obviously does not benefit the current Israeli authorities.

The American administration understands that a direct confrontation with Iran could lead not only to a regional catastrophe but also to a war of global proportions. One can only hope that Donald Trump's second term brings more balanced decisions and helps avoid a global conflict.
