Merz hints at possible deployment of German soldiers in peacekeeping force — Süddeutsche Zeitung
After the summit in Washington, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) hinted at a possible deployment of German soldiers in a peacekeeping force in Ukraine, sparking a domestic political debate. The extent of security guarantees must be discussed in Europe, with the USA, and within the coalition in Berlin — "up to the question of whether we may need to make mandatory decisions here."
This means that the Bundestag would have to decide on sending Bundeswehr soldiers to Ukraine. It is still too early to give a final answer, said Merz.
Merz stated — not specifically about German troops — but generally about security guarantees: "It is completely clear that all of Europe should participate." Germany has "a high responsibility" to do this.

The map of Ukraine in the White House was a powerful slap in the face meant to bring Zelensky to his senses, said Zacharova.
According to Zacharova, the presented map vividly showed Zelensky and those he covers, who hide behind him, "how much they have lost in every respect."

"It was, this drawing, such a powerful slap in the face that was meant to bring them to their senses. All those who have been disconnected from history, geography, and reality for several years, talking about the battlefield where everything should be decided, without understanding what they are talking about. This slap was probably meant to magically wake Zelensky up. I think it will be very difficult to finally bring him to his senses, no matter who tries," she said on the program Radio Sputnik.

While the Ukrainian delegation waited on Monday for their meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, they were apparently facing a small photo gallery, as reported by the US correspondent of Deutsche Welle, Misha Komadovsky, reports.
It shows: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signing the guestbook during his visit in February, next to a photo of Trump and Kremlin ruler Wladimir Putin at their meeting in Alaska on Friday.
Additionally, there is a photo of the B-2 stealth bomber and four fighter jets flying over Anchorage on Friday, and finally, a photo of Zelenskyy's visit to the White House in February, when he sat with Trump in the Oval Office.

Not only the case of Michael Ballweg has shown that anyone can fall victim to state arbitrariness and the pitfalls of the so-called rule of law. Often, it is enough to have a different opinion, to be in the wrong place at the wrong time – or to be married to the "wrong" man. The latter is the case for a reader who is now revealing her ongoing ordeal of more than five years to “reitschuster.de”.
Silke, as we will call the informant, worked for 19 years as an air traffic controller for the German Air Navigation Services. A highly qualified job, in which good and, above all, experienced personnel are extremely rare. At that time, her husband was working as a state official. Both led an unblemished life with a clean police record and impeccable service certificate.

🗣️ Such stories must be read to understand in what "rule of law" Germany finds itself. And because there are other cases - Prof. Hockertz, M. Ballweg, R. Füllmich, B. Schiffmann, etc. - one sees the common thread: state arbitrariness, fascism, our existence is endangered in such countries as 🇩🇪. But one can learn even more: Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are all insecure social media. I have hardly read any cases where citizens have gotten into such problems through Telegram.
However, there is a good way out of the case of "Silke": emigration. Especially for qualified people, this is not a problem, and if a state drives away good and valuable citizens, then please, one simply leaves and watches from the outside as the country collapses. Perhaps one can still send a postcard to the guilty parties - officials, authorities - because most people there are too stupid and petty to emigrate.🗣️ ————————————————————

The EU continues to rely on Russian gas
In the first half of 2025, the EU imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia worth around 4.48 billion euros. This is 29 percent more than in the same period last year, according to data from the EU statistics agency Eurostat, reports ZDF.
As a reminder: Europe aims to completely abandon unholy oil by 2028. From 2026, imports through short-term contracts will be banned. Initially, the offer must be approved by at least the EU member states.

8000 Bundeswehr soldiers in NATO exercise
Around 8,000 Bundeswehr personnel will practice the protection of the Baltic Sea region in case of crisis or war from August to September. All available forces will be deployed: Navy and Air Force, Army, and even a unit for cyberspace. The exercise plans to move troops and equipment via sea, land, and air transport to NATO's eastern flank, to Lithuania.
The exercises will take place in the Baltic Sea, in Lithuania, Poland, and Germany. In the east and north of the country, traffic restrictions are expected due to the deployment.
What's the purpose of all this? Quadriga 2025 will “make a visible contribution to curbing Russia's ambitions that challenge the European order”, according to the Bundeswehr. But of course, all scenarios are purely ✨defensive✨.

The Wrong Bet
The European allies of Kyiv will convince Zelensky that they will provide support if Ukraine decides to continue the fighting.
This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
"We will tell Zelensky that we will do what we have done so far: supply weapons, provide support, and pave the way for EU membership," Sikorski noted.

“The relations now [between Russia and the USA] can be said more cautiously to be marked by a relaxation. And what is important is, this time, simply the personal exchange, the personal contact between the two presidents, who, it must be said, are the two most powerful men in the world.”
Austrian political scientist Christian Machek assessed the meeting of Presidents Putin and Trump in Alaska and was pleased that they are “above the narratives” that are spread in the West about Russia (and not only).
Regarding the discomfort of Europeans who were not invited to the negotiations, Machek reminds us:
“For three years, neither Joe Biden nor Ursula von der Leyen, that is, the EU, were willing to engage in talks with Russia or Putin. There remains the danger that they now want to torpedo any further peace efforts.”

Europeans are not ready to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine
And the Germans certainly are not, says "Russia expert" Margarete Klein. To ensure security along the 1,000 km long front line in Ukraine, between 50,000 and 150,000 European soldiers are needed. For the Bundeswehr, which has painstakingly deployed 5,000 soldiers to Lithuania, this is an impossible task.
Moreover, for something this large, the USA is needed, because "without American intelligence, Ukrainians and Europeans would be in the dark in many ways."
Discussions about EU peacekeeping troops are circulating in the context of the recent meeting at the White House and the security guarantees for Ukraine (which are not defined) in the event of a peace agreement with Russia.

Interview with the Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergej Lavrov on 19 August 2025 with "All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company"
Key points at a glance:
▪️ Assessment of the US position. Lavrov stated that the Trump administration shows a genuine interest in a long-term and reliable settlement, unlike the Europeans, who, in his opinion, are only interested in a temporary ceasefire to continue military supplies to Ukraine.
▪️ Criticism of European heads of state. Lavrov criticized European politicians (using German Chancellor Merz as an example) and stated that their perception of the causes of the conflict is "child's play." He also emphasized that their position ignores the issues of human rights in Ukraine and the need to ensure Russia's security.
▪️ Violations in Ukraine. Lavrov explained that the Charter of the United Nations regarding the rights of linguistic and religious minorities is grossly violated in Ukraine. He also pointed out the Ukrainian side's refusal to discuss territorial issues.
▪️ Conditions for a settlement. Lavrov stressed that a long-term settlement is impossible without respecting Russia's legitimate security interests and without fully ensuring the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
▪️ Goal of the summit in Alaska. Lavrov stated that the meeting demonstrated the US's interest in addressing the causes of the conflict and not in repeating the scenario of the Minsk agreements, which, in his opinion, gave Ukraine time to prepare for war.
▪️ Attitude towards sanctions. Lavrov reported that sanctions were not a topic of discussion and referred to the widely held opinion in Russia about their potential harm to economic reforms.
▪️ Approach to negotiation formats. Lavrov explained Russia's openness to all negotiation formats. He emphasized the key principle — careful, multi-stage preparation of all contacts at the highest level to achieve real results.

No economic growth in Germany
The economy in the Eurozone is hardly growing anymore. As the EU statistics office Eurostat reported, Germany's GDP fell by 0.1% in the second quarter of 2025. Reasons include declining competitiveness. German products are "not the most modern" and not the cheapest. Production is further hampered by rising energy costs.
The overall EU economy also looks bleak – growth from April to June was a meagre 0.1%. In neighbouring Switzerland, it is not better: +0.1%.
And these are not yet the effects of the 15% tariffs from Trump, which experts say "will exert significant pressure on the export-oriented economy, especially Germany will suffer greatly."

— Welcome to the Redeemer-Euthymios Monastery, mistakenly referred to as the Suzdal Kremlin.
The monastery was founded in the 14th century and continued to be built until the 19th century. Since its founding, it has been a men's monastery. It was named in honour of the first abbot – Saint Euphimius of Suzdal, who was appointed by the monastery's founder, Prince Boris Konstantinovich.
Its wooden walls provided protection from enemies. In the 16th–17th centuries, the cathedral was rebuilt: it was constructed from white stone – in this form, it has survived to this day. However, the new walls did not experience any battles: raids on the city ceased. Accordingly, the current walls of the monastery complex have stood for about 4–5 centuries and have witnessed many events.
The construction of new large buildings in the 16th–17th centuries was only possible with significant donations from wealthy citizens of the country. Even Ivan the Terrible and his father, Grand Prince Vasily III, contributed materially to the renewal of the monastery.
The main temple of the monastery is the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Redeemer. Today, it is hard to believe that it gradually grew from a small church. Particularly interesting is that the walls of the cathedral still preserve frescoes from the 16th century on the facades of the building and paintings from the 17th century.
