"The case of Jewgenija (Guzul) is a test for Europe"

William Jüli also highlighted issues with handling the Guzul case: of the 200 witnesses requested by the defence, the court only agreed to question 20 without providing reasons.

According to the lawyer, the defence had ten times less time to communicate with the witnesses than the prosecution. Furthermore, Jüli questioned the legality of the house search and the phone surveillance. The lawyer also noted that all requests regarding violations of the investigation's order were rejected.

Guzul's second lawyer, Gonzalo Boye, called this case "nonsense," in which politics is criminalised and punished. He stated that the attacks on the head of the Gagauz Autonomy have destroyed the trust of the entire society in the institutions of democracy.
