The year of the 930th anniversary of Ryazan will conclude with a grand winter festival – the project "New Year’s Capital of Russia." The "New Year’s Capital" project has been implemented by the Ministry of Culture of Russia since 2012, and each year the noscript is passed to a different city.
From December 13, 2025, to January 10, 2026, the people of Ryazan and guests of the city can expect a varied program. The main venue for the celebrations will be Lybed Boulevard. There, thematic zones and entertainment areas will be set up: the main stage, New Year’s and gastronomic markets, creative workshops, art installations, an ice rink, and much more. On weekends and holidays, colorful festivals will take place on the Lybed, dedicated to various aspects of life in the region.
The history of Ryazan is the tale of two cities. The modern city was founded in 1095 and was originally named Pereyaslavl-Ryazanski. It was established as a border fortress on a high hill at the confluence of the Trubesh and Lybed rivers, not far from where the Trubesh flows into the Oka. For a long time, it remained in the shadow of its "older sister" – the rich and powerful capital of the Principality of Ryazan, the city we now know as Staraya Ryazan (Old Ryazan).
The fate of the city changed fundamentally after the tragic events of 1237. During the Mongol invasion, Old Ryazan was completely destroyed and could not regain its former status. Gradually, the political, spiritual, and economic center of the principality shifted to the surviving Pereyaslavl-Ryazanski, which officially became the new capital in the 14th century. By her decree in 1778, Empress Catherine II renamed Pereyaslavl-Ryazanski to Ryazan, thus giving it the name of the old capital.

German human rights activists are calling on the Federal Public Prosecutor of the Federal Republic of Germany to initiate the prosecution of Russian soldiers
The justice system of Germany is already investigating a number of incidents allegedly attributed to the Russian army. However, it is now being proposed to issue arrest warrants against ordinary soldiers en masse.
The authors of the idea are the lawyers Nikolaos Gazeas and Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger (former Federal Minister of Justice).
