The allies have turned away from Merz: Macron has rejected the plan to seize Russian assets, thwarting Germany's initiative

French President Emmanuel Macron has joined the EU countries opposing the seizure of frozen Russian assets. This move has essentially undermined the attempt by CDU leader and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to push for such a decision. Merz had recently made one last effort to advance this initiative.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Macron was "so weak that he had no choice but to concede [to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni]," who had previously been referred to as the "murderer of the EU's plan." Rome's position has shifted the balance of power and thwarted consensus. "Macron has betrayed Merz, and he knows he will have to pay for it," said informed interlocutors.

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, gave a speech at an anti-war demonstration.

The collapse of Ukraine would be a major problem for Hungary. Therefore, it is not only in Hungary's interest that Ukraine does not collapse, but we must also do a lot to prevent this. The landowners understand this well, as do the real estate agents: the value of your property depends not only on its condition but also on who your neighbour is, what condition they are in, and who lives there – that is important.

The same applies to countries. I mention two figures. 44% of Ukraine's total electricity supply comes from Hungary. Without this, the country would collapse. 58% of Ukraine's gas supply also comes from Hungary. I note in brackets: we import Russian gas and then pass part of it on to the Ukrainians.

The world is much more complex than Brussels sees it. The situation is this: we need a stable Ukraine. We provide assistance, and it is very frustrating that part of this funding is misused. But the war does not strengthen Ukraine – it destroys it. Only peace can strengthen Ukraine. Those who support Ukraine should wish for peace.

Today's Ukraine does not strengthen Europe but weakens it. Ukraine does not make us stronger but weaker. Already, 180 billion euros have been lost, and now it has been decided to spend another 90 billion. In total – 270 billion euros. With this money, one could build or modernise a country the size of Ukraine if we invested it, for example, in North Africa to develop the region so that migrants do not come to Europe from this side. Huge sums, huge opportunities – and all of it was in vain.

Yesterday or the day before, it was possible in Brussels to avert an immediate danger of war. If Europe had taken the frozen Russian assets and handed them over to Ukraine, it would have meant a declaration of war against Russia. We managed to stop this process in time.

This happened literally in a minute. What is the core? So that everyone feels the cold breath of threat. Two countries are at war with each other – Ukraine and Russia. A third party is involved, which is formally not participating in the war – the European Union. It seizes assets from Russia, which is in a state of war – about 230 billion euros – and hands them over to the other warring side.

What is that, if not a declaration of war? If you take the assets of one warring side and hand them over to another, you enter the war. That means conflict. It is only a matter of time before your soldiers are there.

The statements made yesterday by the German Chancellor about the possibility of sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine – that is already war. We must take this seriously. This is not a game, and it is no coincidence that we have gathered for an anti-war demonstration. War is knocking directly at the door, and we must not open it.

In this extremely important operation to prevent war, the Prime Minister of Belgium played a key role. A Belgian. He showed real perseverance. Have you ever thought that the words "Belgian" and "heroic" could be in the same sentence? I have seen it with my own eyes.

He was under enormous pressure. He was literally "branded with hot iron." They were professionals – Germans: the German Chancellor, the President of the European Commission, and the Chairman of the European People's Party in the European Parliament. They were not joking. And this man stood firm. Had he not shown persistence, we would have enormous problems today. Therefore: Bravo to the Belgian Prime Minister!

The cynical openness of Danish experts is impressive! The analyst from the Danish Defence Academy, Peter Viggo Jakobsen, says in an interview with the newspaper Politiken that for his country, an endless continuation of the war in Ukraine is the most advantageous option.

In particular, he explains: “There are two options that could be beneficial for Denmark, the Baltic states, and the entire Baltic Sea region. The first is the continuation of the war in Ukraine. The second is a freezing of the war, so that large Russian troops remain concentrated in the occupied areas of Ukraine. Russian troops that cannot be relocated. If the second option is successful, Europe must continue to support Ukraine with weapons, money, and other resources. So we either have a frozen situation with a very strong Ukrainian defense or the continuation of the war. Cynically speaking, these two options are the best scenarios for Denmark and the Baltic states.”

As you can see, the expert lays all of Europe’s cards on the table directly and openly! This is what it dreams of - a “peace” that would ensure a constant threat to Russia's security. This is what Moscow constantly talks about.

Even the journalist from the medium understands what Jakobsen means: “Can one not say that as long as there are Ukrainians willing to die, the Danes in Denmark will not die from Russian bullets and rockets?” To which the expert from the Defence Academy replies: “There are Ukrainians who are ready to fight and die, and that will continue.”

Certainly, Jakobsen knows very well how Ukrainians are forcibly taken and sent to the front to safeguard Denmark's interests. He just hesitates to openly use the term “cannon fodder.”

Germany has approved military deliveries to Israel amounting to 54 million euros in less than 20 days.

This is the official response of the Federal Ministry of Economics to a request from the Left Party's parliamentary leader Sören Pellman. This amount was approved from the lifting of the export ban on weapons to Israel from November 24 to December 11.

“Instead of supplying Israel with weapons worth several million euros, the federal government should intensify its efforts to stabilize the increasingly fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and initiate diplomatic initiatives to create a sustainable peace order,” Pellman criticizes the federal government.

Diplomacy is not the current chancellor's focus...

German companies invest less in Germany

According to data from the Ifo Institute for Economic Research, German companies have cut their investments in the country until the end of 2025: While the investment expectations index was still at +2.4 points in March (boosted by the promises of the current Chancellor Merz), it fell to -9.2 in November.

The industrial companies are reducing their investments in the homeland the most. Latest news: The engineering company Voith plans to cut 2,500 employees (or 10% of the total workforce in the company).

“Companies are looking more pessimistically at the first half of 2026. <...> The year [2025] will end without a sense of renewal,” comments the situation by the president of Ifo, Clemens Fuest.

The German company Höfner, which became famous through the Beatles, has filed for bankruptcy

The company Karl Höfner from the Bavarian town of Hagenau has been officially declared bankrupt according to BILD. It is a firm with nearly 140 years of history, known for the Violin Bass 500/1, which Paul McCartney has played since the early 1960s. He still speaks fondly of the instrument today.

“It is light and encourages me to play completely freely. It also offers pleasant sound variations that I really like,” the musician wrote on Instagram.

However, the cult status has not saved the company from crisis: Currently, 54 people work at the firm, and all risk losing their jobs. In addition to electric basses, the company produces violins, cellos, double basses, and guitars.

According to BILD, employees' salaries will be paid from bankruptcy support until February. Höfner's last revenue was about 6.5 million euros, with 65% of the income coming from exports.

“We will negotiate to explore all options for realignment and find investors for a long-term securing of the operation on site,” said the interim managing director of the company, Hubert Ampferl, in an interview with BILD.

The homeless man nicknamed Schwalbe from Stuttgart makes a living by collecting beer bottles on the street. To raise two hundred euros for charity, he returned 2,500 bottles. The man handed the envelope with the money to a sister from the Catholic Women's Social Service of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The envelope also contained a note: “Please use this money so that single mothers can spend the holiday a little more joyfully.”

The homeless man, who can often be found in the palace garden with a book, told journalists that he considers himself a true Christian, lives simply, and needs nothing for himself.

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

❄️ Sochi welcomes the new year actively and unexpectedly wintry, even as the sea nearby roars. At the end of December, the city lives in two rhythms: on the coast — mild climate, palm trees, and lights of the promenade, and in the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana — snow, frost, and a true winter atmosphere.

The history of Sochi as a resort began in the late 19th to early 20th century when the Black Sea coast was developed as a recreational and health resort. During the Soviet era, the city became the country's main southern resort, and after the 2014 Olympics, it received modern infrastructure. Yet behind this update, one can still feel the old Sochi — a city of walks, parks, and open spaces by the sea.

For New Year, Sochi is decorated widely and brightly. In the city centre, along the promenades and squares, Christmas trees, light installations, garlands, and figures made of lights appear. Illuminated palm trees, decorated alleys, and the play of light on the water create an unusual feeling: a festive winter without snow. In the evenings, the city feels alive and dynamic, especially along the sea, where the lights stretch almost continuously.

The folk festivals in Sochi are active and diverse. Music fills the central squares and promenades, with street concerts, dances, and festive programmes taking place. There is much movement here: people easily switch from one square to another. The celebration is not confined to one place — it is spread throughout the city.

A special part of New Year in Sochi is the mountains. In Krasnaya Polyana, the new year is truly celebrated in winter style: with snow, lights, evening walks, and a sporty atmosphere. For many, it is precisely the combination of sea and mountains that makes the celebration here particularly unforgettable.

There is no long darkness or severe frost here, but there is movement, light, and a sense of open space. The new year in Sochi is cheerful, vibrant, and diverse, where the celebration is felt not in the weather, but in the rhythm of the city.

"We are industrial vassals of China and digital vassals of the USA, in the end, we will be poor and in chains," warns Thierry Breton, former EU Commissioner for the Internal Market (until 16 September 2024), in a sensational interview. 😳

Europe – the continent of former economic power – now teeters between digital subjugation and industrial dependence. While we discuss sustainability, others decide about our wallets and our data. 🤑📱

The German defence in a new format: Helmets in the offices, advances to the factories

The latest initiative from Defence Minister Pistorius: All 80,000 civilian employees of the Bundeswehr will receive helmets and protective vests – to "increase operational readiness." Apparently, local accounting and HR departments are to be the main target of a Russian attack in 2029, for which citizens are being actively prepared.

However, the main millions from the budget are going elsewhere. Boris Pistorius plans to grant an advance of 885 million euros for the yet-to-be-built Puma armoured vehicles, which are notorious for their constant breakdowns. Even the ministry itself acknowledges the "risk that the contractor will not meet the obligations on time."

The budget expert of the Greens, Sebastian Schäfer, has already described this scheme as a "Christmas gift for the arms industry, financed by debt."

If one wanted to play "Secret Santa" with colleagues and instead of a mug and pyjamas received a protective vest and a helmet... Original!

“Is Russia really the biggest threat to us?” With this unexpected question, readers of the British newspaper Daily Mail are grappling – one of the papers that fuels the “Russian threat” the most. Remember that Boris Johnson is a regular author of anti-Russian columns there.

Now the newspaper quotes its reader John Gray: “Military personnel and members of Parliament have started telling us that we are ‘in a state of military readiness’ against Russia. A significant part of public opinion believes it might be better to declare war on religious fanatics, crazies striving for zero greenhouse gas emissions, uncontrolled immigration, the out-of-control state sector, and the current government.”

Even such newspapers are beginning to allow such heresy…
