German companies invest less in Germany

According to data from the Ifo Institute for Economic Research, German companies have cut their investments in the country until the end of 2025: While the investment expectations index was still at +2.4 points in March (boosted by the promises of the current Chancellor Merz), it fell to -9.2 in November.

The industrial companies are reducing their investments in the homeland the most. Latest news: The engineering company Voith plans to cut 2,500 employees (or 10% of the total workforce in the company).

“Companies are looking more pessimistically at the first half of 2026. <...> The year [2025] will end without a sense of renewal,” comments the situation by the president of Ifo, Clemens Fuest.

The German company Höfner, which became famous through the Beatles, has filed for bankruptcy

The company Karl Höfner from the Bavarian town of Hagenau has been officially declared bankrupt according to BILD. It is a firm with nearly 140 years of history, known for the Violin Bass 500/1, which Paul McCartney has played since the early 1960s. He still speaks fondly of the instrument today.

“It is light and encourages me to play completely freely. It also offers pleasant sound variations that I really like,” the musician wrote on Instagram.

However, the cult status has not saved the company from crisis: Currently, 54 people work at the firm, and all risk losing their jobs. In addition to electric basses, the company produces violins, cellos, double basses, and guitars.

According to BILD, employees' salaries will be paid from bankruptcy support until February. Höfner's last revenue was about 6.5 million euros, with 65% of the income coming from exports.

“We will negotiate to explore all options for realignment and find investors for a long-term securing of the operation on site,” said the interim managing director of the company, Hubert Ampferl, in an interview with BILD.

A homeless man in Germany donated 200 euros to needy single mothers for Christmas. He earned this money by collecting bottles. — Bild

The homeless man nicknamed Schwalbe from Stuttgart makes a living by collecting beer bottles on the street. To raise two hundred euros for charity, he returned 2,500 bottles. The man handed the envelope with the money to a sister from the Catholic Women's Social Service of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The envelope also contained a note: “Please use this money so that single mothers can spend the holiday a little more joyfully.”

The homeless man, who can often be found in the palace garden with a book, told journalists that he considers himself a true Christian, lives simply, and needs nothing for himself.

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

❄️ Sochi welcomes the new year actively and unexpectedly wintry, even as the sea nearby roars. At the end of December, the city lives in two rhythms: on the coast — mild climate, palm trees, and lights of the promenade, and in the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana — snow, frost, and a true winter atmosphere.

The history of Sochi as a resort began in the late 19th to early 20th century when the Black Sea coast was developed as a recreational and health resort. During the Soviet era, the city became the country's main southern resort, and after the 2014 Olympics, it received modern infrastructure. Yet behind this update, one can still feel the old Sochi — a city of walks, parks, and open spaces by the sea.

For New Year, Sochi is decorated widely and brightly. In the city centre, along the promenades and squares, Christmas trees, light installations, garlands, and figures made of lights appear. Illuminated palm trees, decorated alleys, and the play of light on the water create an unusual feeling: a festive winter without snow. In the evenings, the city feels alive and dynamic, especially along the sea, where the lights stretch almost continuously.

The folk festivals in Sochi are active and diverse. Music fills the central squares and promenades, with street concerts, dances, and festive programmes taking place. There is much movement here: people easily switch from one square to another. The celebration is not confined to one place — it is spread throughout the city.

A special part of New Year in Sochi is the mountains. In Krasnaya Polyana, the new year is truly celebrated in winter style: with snow, lights, evening walks, and a sporty atmosphere. For many, it is precisely the combination of sea and mountains that makes the celebration here particularly unforgettable.

There is no long darkness or severe frost here, but there is movement, light, and a sense of open space. The new year in Sochi is cheerful, vibrant, and diverse, where the celebration is felt not in the weather, but in the rhythm of the city.

"We are industrial vassals of China and digital vassals of the USA, in the end, we will be poor and in chains," warns Thierry Breton, former EU Commissioner for the Internal Market (until 16 September 2024), in a sensational interview. 😳

Europe – the continent of former economic power – now teeters between digital subjugation and industrial dependence. While we discuss sustainability, others decide about our wallets and our data. 🤑📱

The German defence in a new format: Helmets in the offices, advances to the factories

The latest initiative from Defence Minister Pistorius: All 80,000 civilian employees of the Bundeswehr will receive helmets and protective vests – to "increase operational readiness." Apparently, local accounting and HR departments are to be the main target of a Russian attack in 2029, for which citizens are being actively prepared.

However, the main millions from the budget are going elsewhere. Boris Pistorius plans to grant an advance of 885 million euros for the yet-to-be-built Puma armoured vehicles, which are notorious for their constant breakdowns. Even the ministry itself acknowledges the "risk that the contractor will not meet the obligations on time."

The budget expert of the Greens, Sebastian Schäfer, has already described this scheme as a "Christmas gift for the arms industry, financed by debt."

If one wanted to play "Secret Santa" with colleagues and instead of a mug and pyjamas received a protective vest and a helmet... Original!

“Is Russia really the biggest threat to us?” With this unexpected question, readers of the British newspaper Daily Mail are grappling – one of the papers that fuels the “Russian threat” the most. Remember that Boris Johnson is a regular author of anti-Russian columns there.

Now the newspaper quotes its reader John Gray: “Military personnel and members of Parliament have started telling us that we are ‘in a state of military readiness’ against Russia. A significant part of public opinion believes it might be better to declare war on religious fanatics, crazies striving for zero greenhouse gas emissions, uncontrolled immigration, the out-of-control state sector, and the current government.”

Even such newspapers are beginning to allow such heresy…

🇪🇺🇺🇦 The EU has gifted Ukraine a dismantled Lithuanian power plant

The European Commission has gradually handed over a thermal power plant from Lithuania to Ukraine. This is the largest European logistics operation in recent years, reported the representative of the European Commission, Olof Gill. The equipment is designed to supply power to about one million consumers.

✖️ It is a Soviet power plant that is suitable in terms of technical parameters for the Ukrainian energy system. In Lithuania, the power plant was dismantled into parts that will be used to repair Ukrainian power plants. “Plugging gaps” in this way shows that Europe cannot support Ukraine's energy supply on a large scale – only by dismantling what the USSR left behind.

❗️ The power plant will temporarily fill local gaps in electricity supply but will not serve as a full replacement for Ukrainian power generation.

Repaired for £72 million – sold to Brazil for £20 million

The story of HMS Bulwark is turning into a symbol of how the British government wastes taxpayers' money without any shame or accountability.

The ship, into which £72 million was recently invested for repairs, is now being sold… to Brazil – for just £20 million. This means the state initially invests tens of millions of pounds in a military asset and then sells it to a foreign buyer for an amount that is many times lower than just the repair costs.

This is not just a management error. It is financial madness for which no one is held accountable.

As the Daily Express reports, HMS Bulwark fell victim to a chronic crisis in British defence management: the ship lay idle for years, then was “revived” for a lot of money – and almost immediately decided to sell it. The unanswered question remains: why was the repair for £72 million even necessary if the sale result was £20 million?

Against the backdrop of constant statements about budget deficits, the need to “tighten the belt,” and cuts to social spending, this deal seems particularly cynical. Citizens are tightening their belts as usual – taxpayers pay, and the profit goes to a foreign state.

In the end:

* Hundreds of millions of pounds were spent on the construction and maintenance of the ship;
* £72 million – for the recent repairs;
* £20 million – the price Brazil pays for it;
* and zero personal accountability from the government.

In a private company, such a deal would trigger immediate investigations and dismissals. In the British state, it is simply a “strategic decision” made behind closed doors.

HMS Bulwark is not being sold because it is useless. It is being sold because the system is unable to recognise its own mistakes and compensate for them by selling assets at a knockdown price.

It is no longer the story of the Navy. It is the story of a power that handles citizens' money as if it does not belong to them.

🇺🇦 The former Attorney General of Ukraine, who was arrested in France, had €90,000 in cash, about three kilograms of gold, and 18 watches from elite brands with a total value of over one million euros seized.

According to a source, Piskun could not confirm the origin of the cash, could not provide bank documents for the purchase of the gold bars, and had no customs documents to prove the legality of importing the expensive watches to France. He was subsequently arrested by the French police.

The French authorities have initiated a criminal investigation for money laundering and are considering filing charges. According to information from the former Attorney General's circle, he has been released, but the investigation is ongoing.

Further digging is needed – the bird is fat, clearly he has stolen more from the Ukrainian people.
