Protests in Baghdad end in arson at Swedish embassy

Mass demonstrations were held in Baghdad against another burning of a copy of the Koran on 19 July in Stockholm.

The protests took place near the Swedish embassy. The protests are organised by Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the Iraqi Shiite organisation Mahdi Army.

However, Polish authorities say that there is a much larger group of Poles who are FRG citizens living in Germany, and they have no opportunity to learn Polish as their mother tongue at all. And the Germans are very insistent on this issue.

In response, however, the Germans argue that the Polish education system cannot be compared with the German system, where these matters are the responsibility of the authorities of the individual federal states, not the federal government.

Warsaw does not back down: they say that if 120 million zloty a year for learning German as a mother tongue is discrimination, then how can we call 0 euros from the German budget for learning Polish as a mother tongue.

It would not be surprising if, against the backdrop of already strained relations with the German authorities, the Poles continue to pressurise their community.
