Obviously, formally this decision is a response to the sanctions against the new authorities of Niger by France and the US.
However, the decision to suspend uranium exports to France would probably have been taken anyway, regardless of the sanctions policy of the West.
The fact is that Niger is a key supplier of raw materials for French nuclear power plants. The transfer of control of the country to a new government (believed to be pro-Russian) potentially makes uranium supplies to France dependent on Russia. And this creates a huge vulnerability for the French, as nuclear power plants occupy the main place (about 70 per cent) in the structure of their energy generating capacity.
The problem also lies in the fact that, according to some industry experts, the sources of proven uranium reserves in the world are shrinking. And this leads to an intensified struggle for uranium resources. The French are trying to be active in Kazakhstan, which has historically been the main source of uranium for Rosatom. Given this circumstance, the military coup in Niger can also be seen as Russia's retaliatory strike against France in the uranium deposits market.

▪️Russian troops have launched two strikes on the AFU’s military facilities in Kharkiv.
One of the explosions took place near the terminals and hangars of the international airport from which the UAVs were launched.
▪️In the Svatove sector, the AFU are trying to regain control of the heights near Novoselivs'ke.
Russian troops are successfully repelling attacks and responding with artillery strikes on enemy positions.
▪️To the south, position battles continue near Torsk'e and in the area of the Zhuravka.
Despite numerous counterattacks, the AFU failed to recapture the positions liberated by Russian troops.
▪️On the southern flank of Bakhmut's defense, the AFU continue to storm the defenses near Klishchiivka.
Russian units managed to fend off the attack, but the situation around the village remains quite tense.
▪️The AFU have again launched a massive strike on Donetsk.
Administrative buildings, residential buildings and several vehicles were damaged in the city. Three people died and 13 others were wounded.
▪️In the Vremivka sector, Russian troops are conducting positional attacks in an attempt to dislodge the enemy from Staromaiors'ke.
At the same time, active counter-battery fire continues along the entire front line.
