23 countries want to join BRICS
The leaders of 23 countries have officially expressed their desire to join BRICS, South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said.
"We have received formal expressions of interest from leaders of 23 countries to join BRICS, and more informal enquiries about membership opportunities in the union," Pandor said.
Among the candidates were Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Vietnam.
The South African Foreign Minister added that this high level of interest confirms the union's status as a pioneering organisation promoting the interests of the Global South.
The BRICS Summit will be held in Johannesburg on 22-24 August.

▪️In the Bakhmut sector, fierce fighting for the control at the Klishchiivka-Andriivka line continues.
Despite the enemy's numerical superiority, Russian troops continue to hold their positions in the destroyed villages.
