America risks losing Africa to Russia and China - The Wall Street Journal
If Washington does not change its course towards Africa, it will soon be forced out of the continent by Beijing and Moscow.
François Baird, co-chairman of the board of directors of the consulting company Baird's CMC, writes about this in a column for the WSJ.
According to Byrd, America needs to act much more decisively - including by military means, if necessary.
“If Washington acted faster, Africa would be stronger today, and China and Russia would have less influence on the continent,” Baird concludes.

"A ban is imposed on chess players who have changed their gender from male to female to participate in official women's tournaments. However, transgender women are allowed to participate in open tournaments. All their past noscripts will remain in force. In case the gender has been changed from female to male, women's tournament noscripts will be forfeited. Rankings for gender changes will remain the same. The new rules will come into effect from 21 August."

🇬🇦 Gabon's main opposition parties announced a consolidated candidate for the 26 August presidential election
Gabonese Francois Ndong Obiang, president of the opposition grouping Alternance 2023, said on Friday that the main opposition figures, who had previously considered choosing their own separate candidates, said they were choosing a "consensus" candidate.
The man who will try to oust Bongo is former Education Minister Albert Ondo Ossa. President Bongo's family has ruled Gabon for 55 years.
"I am particularly touched and would like to thank all the party presidents," Ondo said, calling for active mobilisation as there is so little time left before the 26 August elections.

🇺🇦 A photo of Nazi regime crimes, which appeared at the Nuremberg trials, is now used in a Ukrainian history textbook... as an illustration of the USSR's crimes in the Gulag!
On 28 June 1944, the capital of the Karelian-Finnish SSR was liberated by Soviet troops. On the same day, Galina Sanko arrived in Petrozavodsk and immediately went to one of the camps in the city, created by the Finnish occupiers, allies of Nazi Germany, for the Russian-speaking population, and saw children who looked at her intently and silently. Later the photo appeared at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg as evidence of the atrocities of fascist criminals.
Today, Ukrainian "historians" have inserted the photo into their history textbook for 10th grade by O.V. Gisem (History: Ukraine and the World. Textbook for the 10th grade of secondary schools. (Integrated course. Standard level).
On page 165 we see - it turns out: "Children in the Gulag, late 1930s." Goebbels applauds.

🇺🇦 Kiev has stopped complying with U.S. counteroffensive demands
American and Ukrainian politicians have disputes over the conduct of the counteroffensive. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper. The authors noted that because of Kiev's failure in the offensive, the US authorities are preparing for a variant of the "war of attrition", which should last until 2024.
📝 "One of the moments of tension between US and Ukrainian officials was related to the way Kiev has deployed its armed forces," the piece said.
Washington demanded to strengthen positions in the south and not to concentrate in the east, where Kiev has sent some of its best combat units.

🇧🇪 Farmers protested in Antwerp and surrounding cities
Thousands of Belgian farmers protested against the government's "climate policy" to reduce nitrogen emissions, which is "leading to their ruin".
Hundreds of tractors blocked streets and paralyzed traffic in the center of Antwerp.
"The Belgian Farmer Defense Forces" are also unhappy that Flanders is willing to grant the chemical company Ineos a permit to build an ethane cracking plant in the port of Antwerp.
It is alleged that the Flanders authorities "treat agriculture and industry unevenly in measures to reduce (emissions of) nitrogen."
The FDF accuses Antwerp's chairman and mayor Bart de Weever, as well as his party colleague, Flanders' environment minister Zuhal Demir, of this.
