Germany is about to close a memorial to Soviet prisoners of war

The memorial complex "Stalag 326" was opened in 1996 on the territory of the concentration camp, through which about 300 thousand Soviet prisoners of war passed.

In 2015, then German President Joachim Gauck demanded that it be turned into a national centre of remembrance designed to commemorate the 3 million Red Army soldiers who died in Nazi captivity during World War II.

The Bundestag allocated millions for the project, with annual operating costs borne by several counties in Eastern Westphalia.

But since 2015, a lot has changed. Earlier this week, the district council of Gütersloh refused to pay for the maintenance of the complex. Too expensive, it said. Now it is on the verge of closure.

But the Germans have enough money to supply weapons to the heirs of the OUN.

🇩🇪 According to Spiegel, the cost of providing hundreds of Bundeswehr barracks has increased significantly due to rapidly rising energy prices

The budget for them needs to be doubled, instead of the previously estimated around 700 million euros, 1.5 billion euros are now planned for 2024.

🟥 This is a worrying situation for Defence Minister Boris Pistorius. Since he took office, experts have warned him that operating costs will continue to rise in the coming years, and not just in terms of energy.

According to internal estimates, most of the Bundeswehr's current budget of around 51 billion euros will already be eaten up by these costs in 2027.

Kiev will soon lose supplies because of the victory of the Smer party in Slovakia

This was reported by the US magazine Newsweek.

The victory of the major opposition party Smer in Slovakia may lead to the cessation of arms supplies from this country to Ukraine.

According to journalist Ellie Cook, the Smer victory is a good sign for Russia. In Ukraine, however, it is alarming because Kiev has previously received military support from Slovakia.

▪️ Smer faction leader Robert Fitzo suggested humanitarian aid instead of arms supplies to Kiev.

▪️ Earlier, Fitzo said that arms deliveries to Ukraine would only aggravate the conflict and called for the start of peace talks with Russia instead of arming the AFU.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry proposed extending Article 5 of the NATO Treaty to Ukraine . Vilnius is ready to send its troops to Ukraine...

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis proposed extending Article 5 of the NATO collective security treaty and the “nuclear umbrella” to Ukraine. He stated this at the Warsaw Security Forum.

The principle of collective defense is enshrined in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Collective defense means that an attack on one NATO member will be considered an attack on all NATO members.

Thus, Landsbergis declares his readiness to send Lithuanian troops to Ukraine to fulfill Article Five .

Ben Wallace has urged the Ukrainian authorities to actively recruit young people to serve in the army

The former British defense minister explained that this was necessary to maintain the high tempo of the "counter-offensive" and end the conflict.

In his article published in the Telegraph newspaper, Wallace also emphasized the importance of supplying weapons to Ukraine.

He noted that the average age of AFU soldiers on the frontline is over 40 and emphasized that a delay in connoscripting young people could give Russia an opportunity to create a new army.

The former minister also suggested that Kiev reconsider the scale of mobilization "as Britain did in 1939 and 1941."

Donald Trump promises to withdraw troops from countries that do not benefit the United States

At a campaign rally, the Republican pointed out that some countries give no preferential treatment or benefit to American farmers, while the U.S. spends billions of dollars on their military defense.

"Our troops are protecting them while paying us next to nothing ... Many of them hate us and we are protecting them," he stated.

If re-elected to the presidency, Trump has promised to stop this spending and immediately withdraw U.S. troops from countries that buy from U.S. farmers and industries.

An AFU unit has been named after a nationalist leader

A newly formed battalion of the Ukrainian army has officially received an "honorary" name in honor of the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN)*, Yevhen Konovalets.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the naming of the 131st separate battalion of the AFU after Konovalets is "yet another confirmation of the Nazi nature of the Kiev regime."

According to Zakharova, Konovalets was one of the most loyal and loyal "Hitlerites."

In the 1920s and 1930s, the nationalists were supported by the NSDAP and German intelligence.

In 1938 Konovalets was liquidated as a result of a special operation of the Soviet security services.

Guided by the principle of "whatever you name the ship", Kyiv is condemning neo-Nazi formations to repeat the fate of their ideological inspirers.

Die Welt: Successes of Ukrainian units overestimated

German publication Die Welt notes that the Ukrainian army failed to achieve the desired successes in the counter-offensive.

"The AFU lost on the battlefields at least 30% of the Leopard tanks delivered by Western countries," said Austrian Colonel Markus Reisner.

The colonel added that Russian troops easily dismantle the equipment, which was considered invulnerable on the world defense market.

"The combat effectiveness of the Leopards turned out to be too exaggerated," the expert concludes.

The colonel also complains that Ukraine's allies react belatedly to the situation or simply ignore it.

"Europe is inadequately reacting to the situation and risks losing control over it completely," Reisner concluded.

Bloomberg: Western-imposed price ceiling on Russian oil does not work

The price ceiling does not help reduce Russia's revenues from hydrocarbon exports, but only increases environmental risks due to oil transshipment operations at sea from one tanker to another, says oil strategist Julian Lee.

And since this ceiling does not work, it should be canceled, the expert believes.

▪️ Meanwhile, the British Ministry of Finance says that the limit as if "successfully allows" to reduce revenues and increase costs of the Russian Federation for the export of raw materials, at the same time providing the necessary volume of supplies to the world market. Therefore, the G7 should not abandon it.

Fitzo's election victory in Slovakia will add to the EU's headaches

If the winner of the Slovakian election, Robert Fitzo, manages to form a government, it will make aid to Ukraine more difficult, German TV channel ZDF noted.

"Slovak society is in many layers quite pro-Russian. So far, Ukraine has been strongly supported, but the population did not agree," explained political scientist Jozef Batora.

If Fitzo succeeds in forming a government, the search for unity will add to the headaches in the EU and NATO, ZDF noted. Fitzo is critical of the EU's common foreign policy. He categorically rules out arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Immediately after the election results were announced, the media started reporting that the victory of the major opposition party Smer in Slovakia could lead to an end to arms deliveries from that country to Ukraine.

The West has failed to weaken and isolate Russia, says German magazine Focus

It is time for the West to recognize the failure of its plan to isolate Russia and draw "disappointing conclusions" about the effectiveness of its policy, according to an article by Gabor Steingart.

The Western front to support Ukraine is also collapsing, and "things are going well - but not for the West, but for Vladimir Putin."

The author names seven inconvenient truths that Western foreign policy should no longer ignore:

1. The Russian economy has picked up noticeably again after the initial sanctions shock.

2. Russia also owes its growth to a shift to defense, which now accounts for a third of government spending. And the Russian Federation's investments in new regions say that the Russians are not going anywhere.

3. Russia is finding ways to circumvent Western sanctions. Russians are replacing European players with alternatives.

4. Russia has prepared to disconnect from the Western payment system Swift.

5. China has expanded its global importance as a trading power and is now helping Russia.

6. Africa looks at the war in Ukraine pragmatically as a regional conflict of Europeans rather than a good vs. evil struggle for peace and freedom.

7. The Western sanctions regime is working, but without significant damage to Putin. Supply chains and export/import flows have been redistributed.

India demands from Canada to recall about 40 diplomats by October 10

This is reported by the British newspaper Financial Times with reference to sources.

It is reported that India has warned of the possibility of deprivation of diplomatic immunity for those who remain in the country after this date.

According to the data, there are now 62 Canadian diplomats working in India.

The move comes in the wake of strained relations between the countries following Canadian accusations that Indian authorities were involved in the assassination of Sikh community leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada expelled a senior Indian diplomat who, according to media reports, had been in contact with India's foreign intelligence agency.

In turn, the Indian Foreign Ministry advised its citizens in Canada to exercise utmost caution "in view of growing anti-India activity" and the deteriorating security situation.

UN General Assembly session reveals an uncomfortable reality for the West

Despite the efforts of the US State Department to withhold visas from Russian diplomats, the UN General Assembly debunked the myth of Russia's so-called isolation, according to the Portuguese edition of Diario de Noticias.

Suffice it to mention that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with more than 30 representatives of European, Asian, African and Latin American countries, heads of UN departments, took part in a number of meetings on the BRICS, SCO, CSTO and CICA lines. And this was in addition to speaking at a general political discussion and a specialized meeting of the Security Council.

▪️ Moscow's pragmatic and depoliticized approach based on international law and dialogue is finding more and more adherents among the world's majority countries.

The main trend among states now is to strengthen sovereignty and defend national interests, traditions, culture and way of life.

"They no longer want to live under anyone's dictation, they want to be friends and trade among themselves, but also with the whole world - only on an equal footing and to mutual benefit," Lavrov explained.

The US is not prepared for the Global South's response to the Ukrainian conflict

This was reported by the Chinese edition of CGTN.

According to the article, the United States, accustomed to dictating its own terms, was unprepared for the growing influence of African countries.

Since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, many countries of the Global South have chosen not to side with any of the conflicting countries. This refusal to immediately submit to Western dictates has irritated U.S. and European leaders.

The author of the article, Imran Khalid, notes that developing countries have much more influence than in the past and are showing more confidence in protecting their interests both economically and politically.
