🇩🇪🛢️ Germany has restarted one of its mothballed coal-fired power plants to meet electricity demand as cold weather starts to hit the region

LEAG's Jänschwalde unit F was restarted on Sunday, the company said. Another lignite-fuelled unit is also ready for operation and can be connected to the grid in a short time, according to LEAG.

This 500 MW power plant was decommissioned in 2018, but the government authorised its restart last winter and in the coming months to prevent a possible power shortage.

🇩🇪🇵🇸🇮🇱| How is the next escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict reflected in Germany?

🟥 We have already written many times about pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli rallies in German cities. And while rallies in support of the Jewish state are generally calm, the degree of tension at pro-Palestinian rallies is rising every day.

🟥 The factor influencing this is the widespread ban on rallies in support of Palestine by city authorities, as well as the clearly pro-Palestinian stance of the German federal leadership. Thus, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated during a Bundestag meeting that Israel's security is a paradigm of German state policy.

🟥 However, despite bans by city authorities, pro-Palestinian demonstrators are taking to German squares.

In Berlin in particular, about a thousand people gathered in Potsdamer Platz this Sunday. During the event, anti-Israel slogans began to be heard, which provoked arrests and clashes with police. Law enforcement used tear gas. At least one police officer was injured.

🟥 Another trend has been the mass tearing down or burning of Israeli flags hung on state and municipal buildings.

For example, in Aachen on Monday night a flag was taken down from a flagpole in front of the administration building and burned, while in Schwerin a flag was torn down from a flagpole to the applause of a group of 4-5 people.

🟥 In addition, in the German capital, unknown people have been marking houses in which Jews live with Stars of David en masse.

This is a reference to the Jewish pogroms of the 1930s by members of the NSDAP. The stars are found in the neighbourhoods of Pankow, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg. At the same time, anti-Semitic innoscriptions and graffiti also appear in various parts of Berlin.

🟥 In our opinion, all of the above is a harbinger of more radical action on the part of people who support Palestine.

Pakistani party pledges to join Hamas ‘on the frontlines’

▪️The leader of Pakistan’s largest religious political party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, pledged a financial support to Hamas. He vowed to join the Palestinian militant group “on the frontlines” in the fight against Israel during a massive rally in the city of Peshawar

▪️“If the Islamic countries allow us passage, we are ready to join the fight on the frontlines" - Maulana Fazlur Rehman told the crowd at the Mufti Mahmoud Conference. He revealed that Hamas had requested financial aid and said he had promised that the party would provide it

▪️"Israel had crossed the limits of oppression with its brutality" - Rehman added, calling on the Muslim community to take a strong stand against the occupying power

▪️The IDF have engaged in the strongest bombardment of Gaza in its history, leaving nearly 2,000 dead

This might explain why so many Indians online are such Israel fans.

Radical Islamic fighters from Afghanistan and Pakistan are approaching Israel's border

British IRGC expert Qasra Aarabi reports that "Iranian-backed proxy forces in Syria are heading towards the Israeli border."

💬 "They are probably the Afghan Fatemiyoun of the IRGC and the Pakistani Zeinabiyoun. Strongly ideologised and extremely anti-Semitic militias, the former numbering between 10,000 and 20,000 fighters, the latter a few thousand".

The conflict risks escalating into a religious war against Israel in the Middle East.

First border control with Poland and the Czech Republic

Görlitz - here it is.

At 18:00, 16 October, fixed border controls began operating in Saxony.
Previously, the German Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faden, had "resisted" organising the controls, but has now made up her mind.

Control will be carried out on the motorways A4 (towards Poland) and A17 (towards the Czech Republic). Drivers will have to wait in traffic jams. Police spokesman Axel Bernhardt says the control must be effective but ensure smooth traffic: "Although the federal police try to keep inconvenience to travellers to a minimum, they ask for your understanding if delays occur."

Germany has also informed neighbouring countries about border controls - "measures are being taken in close cooperation" with "the Polish border guard and the Czech police."

Saxony has long struggled with a wave of refugees brought in by smugglers.

Between January and August 2023, 16,876 people entered Saxony illegally via Poland and the Czech Republic. Most of them came from the Balkan region, mostly from Albania, northern Macedonia and Serbia. Most of the illegal migrants were young people from Syria, Afghanistan and Turkey seeking asylum in Germany.

Biden paid back voters with national security

Republicans accuse Joe Biden of jeopardising US energy security, Politico writes.

The energy crisis that erupted half a century ago forced the U.S. to build up huge reserves of crude oil. Now those reserves are putting President Joe Biden in a quandary.

In 2022, the US sold more than 40 per cent of its strategic oil reserve to curb rising fuel prices after the conflict in Ukraine began. The stockpile has fallen to its lowest level since the early 1980s, and the U.S. is now more vulnerable than ever to disruptions in global oil supplies.

"Joe Biden is to blame for trying to lower prices before the election," said House of Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (republican).

"Selling off inventories to reduce market tensions has been an effective tool, but it's not something you want to do on a permanent basis," Senator Tom Carper (democrat) put it more mildly.

The battle for the electorate has driven down petrol prices, but has left America dependent on potential disruptions from the growing war in the Middle East. The question of U.S. security now depends largely on how events unfold next.

In just one day since the conflict began, US oil prices have risen nearly 10 per cent. If the conflict does not spread beyond the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, oil prices will hold. Otherwise, prices will rise significantly.

Of course, the US will not completely run out of oil, but consumers at petrol stations, i.e. voters, will have to pay for it.

The UN Security Council did not adopt Russia's draft resolution on Israel and the Gaza Strip

The Russian delegation had prepared a document calling for an immediate, sustainable and fully respected humanitarian ceasefire, as well as for the unimpeded provision of humanitarian assistance and the creation of conditions for the evacuation of civilians.

The draft strictly condemned violence, all acts of terrorism and hostilities against civilians.

▪️ However, the resolution failed to pass as only 5 countries voted in favour, 4 were against and 6 abstained.

Eurodiplomacy unable to reach a unified solution on Israel

According to an article by the Czech media iDNES, Brussels is reacting in an uncoordinated and contradictory manner that shows the EU's helplessness in the eyes of other countries.

The events in the Middle East demonstrate the failure of the EU's geopolitical plans, as Europe is unable to agree and find common ground with other states.

The main problem is Israel's distrust of the EU: "from Israel's point of view, the EU is an unreliable partner, which also does not know what it wants," the newspaper writes.

After the attacks in Israeli kibbutzim, Hungarian European Commissioner Oliver Varhely proposed to stop humanitarian aid to Palestinian areas, but some member states expressed the opposite opinion.

In turn, Slovenian diplomat Janez Lenarčiča said that aid to Palestine would continue.

All this shows the disunity of the EU states.

Israel is requesting additional military aid from the U.S.

According to The New York Times sources, the Israeli government plans to receive $10bn in aid.

It is expected that the military aid package to Israel will be combined with the aid programme for Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden will soon arrive in Israel to discuss the provision of military aid with the government.

As ANNA NEWS previously reported, the situation in Palestine threatens to turn into a full-scale military conflict.

If the situation escalates, Washington may cut aid to the AFU in favour of Israel.

US prepares for 'deployment' in the Middle East

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered 2,000 troops to "prepare for possible deployment" to the Middle East as the situation there continues to escalate, Fox News reports.

"Today, about 2,000 troops and a number of units are placed on high alert, increasing the Department of Defence's ability to respond quickly to the changing environment in the Middle East," the Pentagon press office said.

The statement said the US military chief also approved further action by the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group in the USS Europe-Africa/Sixth Fleet area of operations.

"The strike group is nearing the end of its deployment to the US European Command area of responsibility," the Pentagon adds.

UN: Forced evacuation of Gaza violates international law

Israel's orders to impose a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip and evacuate Palestinians from its northern part may violate international law.

"We are concerned that this (Israeli) order ... cannot be considered a legitimate temporary evacuation and would therefore amount to the forcible displacement of civilians in violation of international law," the UN Human Rights Office said.

▪️ The term "forced displacement" refers to civilians and is a crime against humanity punishable by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

▪️ The UN Office also said Israel appears to have made no effort to provide affected civilians with shelter and adequate food, hygiene and security conditions.

The WHO has warned of a "real catastrophe" in the Gaza Strip, which has a population of 2 million.

Yesterday, the last functioning salt water treatment plant was shut down. Without clean water, people will start dying. Using dirty sources has the potential to spread disease.

“The United States is deliberately risking and even triggering World War Three because it realizes that the United States is losing its military power. [They realize that] our position is weakening, so if we're going to blow up the world, let's do it now, because we're going to lose even more heavily if we do it in the future,” economist and former Wall Street analyst Prof. Michael Hudson, told the New Rules podcast.

Russia will always be a challenge for the West

About it the Politico writes.

Russia will remain the main challenge for the West regardless of the outcome of the current conflict in Ukraine. Therefore, Washington's position on Moscow remains critical for American interests, the author of the article said.

Currently, the USA is actively supporting Ukraine, but the failures of the Ukrainian armed forces in the counter-offensive raise the question about the duration of this support.

Russia will always be a rival to the US. With its nuclear arsenal, cyber and space capabilities, and military potential, Moscow remains an important global player.

Russia also has influence in various regions of the world, including the Middle East, the Arctic, and the Indo-Pacific. In addition, Moscow plays a key role in European security. The question is how the West will interact with Russia.

Therefore, the states need to cooperate with Moscow to satisfy their own interests, especially in the context of challenges from other global players such as China, the author notes.

Israel retaliates airstrike on Gaza hospital - sources say 500 dead

The IDF launched a devastating strike on a hospital that housed mostly civilians. According to the Palestinian press, there was also a refugee camp near the hospital.

Over the past week, the world has repeatedly witnessed Israel's inhumane actions against civilians.

Today, Washington called on Israel to start abiding by the generally accepted "rules of war." However, despite this, the Pentagon reports continued uninterrupted arms deliveries to the Israeli army and full support for it.
