Forsa poll: only 10% of citizens consider Scholz a strong leader

The chancellor's credibility has done the impossible - it has hit an unprecedented bottom. In two years, the chancellor has managed to lower his own figures by 37 per cent. Even the voters of his own party do not have much faith in the leader - only 21 per cent are loyal and devoted to Scholz.

Things are no better when it comes to the chancellor's competence: instead of 61 per cent, only 31 per cent believe in him over the year. And the number of those who recognise some sense (and words in principle) in Scholz's speeches has fallen by another 9% to 42%.

Two years of chancellorship - flying colours.

🇵🇱 Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia protest Poland over Ukrainian border blockade - ERR

Diplomats of the Baltic states believe that such steps are "harmful to Ukraine".

"We respect the right of lorry drivers to express their opinion. Unfortunately, this has led to a difficult situation that creates problems for other hauliers and additional difficulties for the Ukrainian economy. We have raised this issue with Poland and hope that a solution will be found", said Estonian Foreign Ministry spokesman Brita Kikas.

🇪🇪 The topic of the blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border should be one of the issues of the upcoming visit of the new Polish Foreign Minister to Tallinn. It is likely that the sharp attention of the Baltic States to the Polish protests (after almost a month) is due to the fact that we are not only talking about damage to Ukraine's economy, but also about blocking military cargoes.

Another AFU prisoner of war tells how he was taken from home and driven straight to the front line without medical examination

▫️ 'They brought a draft notice to me. They threw me in the car and took me away. I passed through a medical examiniation, however, I was not present at it. They took me straight to the 17th', says Artyom. 'Things were bad there - everyone's morale was low. No one wants to fight. Everyone is sick. There are a lot of invalids, lots of casualties, lots of wounded. There are a lot of MIA too. Provisioning is bad.'

▫️ According to the prisoner of war, volunteer and humanitarian aid does not reach the front line, it remains somewhere where the commanders are, whom the servicemen have not even seen in person.

▫️ Artyom Slabchenko was captured when Russian servicemen assault AFU positions. 'Ours did not replace us, so we stayed for 3 days more. The, an assault began. No, first they threw VOG grenades at us and a sniper started shooting. Then they assaulted our foxhole. We got three grenades, one VOG inside. Two of us were injured. I decided to surrender as a prisoner. I see no point in continuing this war, as it has already been lost,' said the serviceman.

▫️ The POW notes the human attitude from the Russian servicemen.

According to the Turks, a small mutiny occurred in the battalion of the 14th separate mechanized brigade in the Oskol area.

The soldiers, who were under intense pressure in the Sinkovka area northeast of Kupyansk and forced to withdraw due to the loss of their positions, were subjected to severe insults from Lieutenant Natalya Lichman, a female officer assigned to the battalion as a psychologist and military police officer. She attempted to send them back to their lost positions. Soon after, the growing dispute escalated into conflict and the lieutenant was killed. To cover up the incident, it was announced that she had died as a result of a cluster bomb explosion.

The crisis was resolved after some time, but the fate of the soldiers is unknown.

Another similar incident occurred recently.

Fatigue and exhaustion among Ukrainian army soldiers lead to outbursts of anger, despite intense pressure.

Foreign mercenaries, NATO troops, far-right groups and military intelligence are used to keep the troops at bay. With the recent increase in the recruitment of female soldiers, women close to far-right groups are sent as officers and special forces to try to prevent desertion, and are often killed by experienced soldiers.

The morale of the Ukrainian army is completely hanging by a thread, NATO and far-right groups are making sure that this thread is not severed, but the moment it is severed, cases of desertion, uprising and capitulation will reach a peak.

🇩🇪At the end of the year, German economists assessed the business situation in the country more positively than in previous months.

In November, the Ifo business climate index reached 87.3 points, exceeding the result for the same period last year by 0.9 points.

Entrepreneurs in the manufacturing sector are less sceptical about the further development of the economic situation.

This trend is especially evident among energy-intensive industries, which resulted from the decline in prices for a number of energy resources. On the contrary, in the services sector the surveys record more pessimistic assessments of economic opportunities.

A slight improvement of the situation is observed only among entrepreneurs in the tourism and catering sectors.

It is worth noting that in the 48th calendar week of 2023 (from 27.11.2023 to 03.12.2023), the number of customers in retail shops decreased by 4.64% compared to the previous week and by 3.19% compared to this period last year.

Bloomberg calls Putin's visit to Saudi Arabia a "US failure"

The upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Saudi Arabia shows the failure of Washington's efforts to isolate Moscow, Bloomberg writes.

The agency points out that the visit shows the Russian leader's growing confidence in being able to travel outside the country. Although the U.S. and the European Union have been doing everything possible to prevent this from happening.

It is noted that Russia's economy is very strong and Ukraine, which Washington supports, is not making any progress during the conflict.

Venezuela's president has declared part of a neighbouring state as the country's 24th state

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has declared the western part of neighbouring Guyana - Essequibo - as the country's 24th state.

He called on the Venezuelan National Assembly to pass a law to protect the disputed territory, writes the Ultimas Noticias media.

Nicolas Maduro proposed to create on the annexed territory subdivisions of agencies that issue licences for the extraction of gas, oil and minerals.

He gave oil companies operating in the undemarcated sea three months to complete operations.

Maduro also directed Parliament to discuss a ban on contracting with companies "that operate with concessions unilaterally granted by Guyana in the undemarcated sea."

He added that a new map of Venezuela will be sent to "all schools, colleges and universities" in the coming time.

A referendum was held on 4 December, with about 95% of Venezuelan citizens voting to incorporate Essequibo into the country.

Rich oil and gas deposits have been discovered in the disputed territory.

Hamas will not release hostages until Israel ceases hostilities

A top Hamas leader, Osama Hamdan, said the group has no intention of releasing hostages as long as Israel continues fighting in the Gaza Strip.

"We believe that Netanyahu is responsible for the lives of the Israeli hostages. It is his fault that agreements to exchange them could not be fully implemented," he said.

Currently, according to official figures, 138 people are being held hostage.

German State Company Expected to Pay $1.8 Billion — Handelsblatt

The acquisition of Gazprom Germania by the German government last year may turn into a costly legal dispute. A major customer in India is demanding compensation of potentially $1.8 billion from the company, now operating under the name Securing Energy for Europe (Sefe), following failed LNG deliveries. The Indian energy giant Gail, the country's largest natural gas supplier and mostly state-owned, submitted a corresponding claim last week to the International Court of Arbitration in London, as indicated in a statement to the Mumbai Stock Exchange.

Gail is basing its claim on a supply contract lasting over two decades, which the company entered into about ten years ago with a subsidiary of the Russian Gazprom conglomerate in Singapore. This business unit was formerly part of Gazprom Germania and came into focus due to the nationalization of the company in November 2022.

Warsaw is also blocking military aid to Ukraine

This was reported by a Reuters correspondent with reference to Ukrainian volunteers.

Thus, due to the blockade of the Ukrainian-Polish border by Polish truckers, Ukrainians cannot receive pickup trucks, kamikaze drones, anti-drone nets and night sights.

Polish protests have also affected manufacturers of military equipment for the AFU, the head of the Engineering Corps company, Dolhopyatov, said. He cannot get some of the spare parts.

The cost of delivering military aid increased in November from $1,700 to $2,300 to $5,000, said Akulov, head of the Ukraine in Armour private foundation.

Protesting truckers, on the contrary, assure that the flow of "humanitarian aid" has sharply decreased not because of them, but because of Polish tax and customs officials.

Custom officials began to actively check such cargoes and found that the documents were often forged, and instead of humanitarian aid there was smuggling - from ordinary goods to luxury cars.

London will force Zelensky to negotiate with Moscow

Diplomats in the UK are preparing to "put pressure on Kiev to start peace talks" with Russia. They hope that by this manoeuvre the hostilities in Ukraine will be stopped, writes the Daily Express.

"Whisper it... Ukraine's big counter-offensive doesn't even remotely resemble the success people had hoped for, and it raises serious questions about Kiev's ability to win this conflict by any meaningful military means," the media quoted Politico Magazine's Jack Blanchard as saying.

▪️ The statements of Kiev mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, who blames the president for Ukraine's unwillingness to wage war, can also be considered a sign of pressure on Vlodymyr Zelensky. According to him, Zelensky is "paying for the mistakes he made" and becoming an "autocrat."
