Europe's dependence on Russian fertilisers has become critically dangerous
Europe has become even more dependent on Russian fertilisers, writes the Finnish Maaseudun Tulevaisuus.
Fertilisers and food production are closely linked, and imports of urea and nitrogen from Russia have increased significantly.
"In terms of food, we are more dependent on Russia now than before the conflict in Ukraine," said Svein Tore Holseter, CEO of Yara, Europe's largest fertiliser producer.
Between July 2022 and June 2023, about twice as much urea was imported from Russia to the EU than before the SMO, while nitrogen imports rose to record levels.
"We are giving Putin a serious weapon, and at some point he may use it," Holseter believes.
According to the expert, this situation has developed because of high electricity prices and spending related to climate policy. For this reason, energy-intensive production has begun to move outside the EU.
Holseter is sure that there is an urgent need for an urgent reform of the EU climate policy.
"If we face a new fertiliser or food shock, we can no longer blame Putin, but then the reason is that we were not prepared," the expert added.

The year 2024 will be decisive in the Ukrainian conflict
The most shocking of the ten risks the world will face this year, the US considers the split of Ukraine, writes JB Press. Everything points to an imminent Russian victory.
"Ukraine will be effectively divided this year. This will be difficult for Ukraine and the West to accept, but it will become a reality. Russia, at least, will be able to protect the Crimean peninsula and will retain four regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson," says a study by the American company Eurasia Group.
According to the authors, this year will be decisive in the Ukrainian conflict. If Ukraine does not quickly solve its numerous problems, it risks losing the conflict as early as 2025.
Kiev's main problem is that Russia spends only 6% of its GDP on the war, while global support for Ukraine has completely stagnated and there are no signs that it will grow or at least stay the same.
"Even if Congress approves additional military aid to Kiev in 2024, it will likely be the last significant aid Ukraine receives from the United States," the publication predicts.

Putin says if Ukraine had continued negotiations, everything would have ended 1.5 years ago
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that if Ukraine had not refused to negotiate with Russia at the West's suggestion, the special military operation would have ended 1.5 years ago.
He also said that if the military operation continues, Ukraine's statehood will be dealt an irreparable blow.
The Russian leader called those who went to disrupt the peace agreements morons.
"We agreed on everything... A day later they threw all the agreements in the trash, they said publicly, including the head of this very negotiating group... said: yes, we were ready, we missed it because the then British Prime Minister Mr Johnson arrived and he persuaded us not to implement these agreements," Putin said.
The decision of the Ukrainian leaders to prolong the conflict, according to the Russian president, once again emphasises that they are "not independent people".
Putin stressed that now that Ukraine has failed the counter-offensive, the initiative is in the hands of the Russian Armed Forces. Ukrainian statehood could be dealt an irreparable blow.

The US said that a new world order is being formed in the world
US Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that a new world order is now taking shape, in which existing institutions must be changed and the most valuable principles must be preserved.
"We have come to the end of one era and the beginning of another. And we have opportunities to influence what that new era will look like," he said.
Sullivan suggested changing existing values and principles, and taking the best with them into the new era.
The White House spokesman acknowledged that the new reality is not an easy one, with world powers competing with each other on the one hand and interconnected on the other.

Péter Szijjártó: "The war should have ended yesterday"
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto has said that the Ukrainian conflict is fuelled by arms supplies.
"The more weapons are supplied, the longer the war lasts. And the longer the war lasts, the more people will die," he believes.
The minister is sure that it is possible to end the conflict by giving up military supplies, but the main condition for achieving peace is maintaining dialogue with Russia.
"A lot of money has been paid to Ukraine, but everything that has been done so far has not been successful. Similarly, EU sanctions have not brought the Russian economy to its knees or brought us closer to peace," the diplomat said.
According to Szijjártó "the war should have ended yesterday."
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if Ukraine had continued negotiations, everything would have ended long ago.

🤔 A Portuguese man complains that Lisbon is like Pakistan, crime is skyrocketing and businesses are closing down:

Portugal has been hit by a massive invasion of illegal migrants from other cultures, creating tension and polarisation in areas of Lisbon and beyond.
This apocalypse is happening in many European cities. Mass expulsions are necessary not in words but in deeds.

Crimea reminds US of Russia's nuclear arsenal
The USA should remember that Crimea is part of a nuclear power when planning operations for the Kiev regime.
This statement was made by the deputy chairman of the Crimean parliamentary committee on people's diplomacy and interethnic relations Ivan Shonus.
Earlier, the US media reported that Washington considers the territory of Crimea as a priority target for the AFU's actions in the near future.
Commenting on the journalists' information, Shonus reminded that aggression against Russia's sovereign territory will meet a natural response.
"The US in its plan as always misses the fact that Crimea is Russian territory and they are talking to a nuclear power that has everything spelled out in its doctrine," the MP said.
He also added that the attempts of the AFU to break through to Crimea in the summer of 2023 ended in failure and now Kiev seeks to "blur the eyes" of the Ukrainian people.

Israel has authorised the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip
The Israeli authorities and the Hamas group, with the participation of the Qatari Foreign Ministry, have agreed on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.
Under the terms of the deal, the Palestinian side guarantees the delivery of medicines to Israeli citizens held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the import of medicines and humanitarian aid for the civilian population.
The consignment of humanitarian aid from Qatar will be delivered to the Egyptian city of El-Arish by two aircrafts of the Qatari armed forces for further transport to Gaza in the near future.
Earlier, Israel's army command said it was winding down fighting in the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, following the destruction of Hamas infrastructure in those areas.

Al Mayadeen: The US is trying hard to prolong the war in Gaza
Four months later, there is no sign of an imminent end to the fighting in Gaza. There are several aspects to Israel's and Hamas' prolongation of the war, a Lebanese media outlet notes.
▪️ First, Israel is seizing the moment to impose its policy of occupying all Palestinian territory on the West. The Israelis are ethnically cleansing the Arab population and forcibly deporting Palestinians from their homeland.
They also want to demolish the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem for the sake of building the Third Temple.
But Palestinian resistance threatens to undo all the results of Israeli policy.
▪️ Second, Israel is a springboard for American influence in the Middle East as part of the US strategy to encircle the Eurasian powers of Russia and China, as well as Iran.
This became evident at the G20 summit, where the US announced the project of a new India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Tel Aviv's de facto policy is always directed against Moscow, Beijing and Tehran.
▪️ Thirdly, the Gaza situation has hit not only Israel but also the US role in the Middle East.
The United States is contributing to the prolongation of the war in Gaza in the hope that the situation will change and it will be possible to make Israel the winner in order to restore its influence.
After all, if the war stops now, Tel Aviv will not be able to achieve any of its goals. At the same time, Washington's plan to encircle Moscow and Beijing will also be thwarted.

Is the US attack on the Houthis another mistake by Washington?
By striking the Yemeni Houthis, the US and Britain have let the genie out of the bottle, and there is no turning it back, says Advance.
Iran is behind the rebels, the Croatian publication explains, and lists the entire sprawling axis of Iranian allies.
▪️ First of all, it is Iranian Hezbollah. In 2006 Israel really wanted to break and completely destroy this movement, but it failed.
▪️ In Syria, Bashar al-Assad has held out as well. "Thanks" to the war, various Iranian formations remain there even now and are well entrenched.
▪️ Iraq is a predominantly Shiite country, but under Saddam Hussein the Shiites were suppressed, as were the Kurds. The US made a big mistake in cracking down on him in the hope that their influence in Baghdad would surpass Iran's.
As a result, the Shiite majority and the pro-Iran militia there became very strong. Now wherever U.S. troops are in Iraq, they can be hit.
▪️ Washington never drew conclusions. Israel began fighting in the Gaza Strip in September, intent on destroying Hamas, another friend of Iran, not like Hezbollah but with a clear line of contact with Tehran. After a hundred days, Gaza is almost destroyed and Hamas is not.
There is no point in wondering whether the war in the Middle East will expand. It has already practically happened.
The Husis wanted it as much as Iran, the publication believes. If they didn't want it, they wouldn't be hitting the courts.
Ironically, the war is perhaps least needed right now by the United States, which has the most to lose and will have to flee the Middle East just as it once did Afghanistan.

Latvian president urges West to support Ukraine 'until victory'
Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics has said that Western countries should abandon the "we will help as long as it takes" strategy in supporting Ukraine.
"Our problem, the problem of the West, is that we talk about our readiness to support Ukraine as long as it takes. But it is impossible to win with such a strategy," he said.
The Latvian president is sure that the West should follow a "until victory" strategy in this matter.
"If we say that we are ready to support Ukraine until it 'wins', then there will be a clear understanding in the West that it is necessary to help Kiev, no matter what it takes," Rinkevics is convinced.
Such a statement looks belated against the background of Joe Biden's words about the limited US capabilities, said in mid-December:
"As long as we can, we will continue to supply Ukraine with critically needed weapons and equipment."

The West will help Kiev to attack the Crimean bridge
The Hill publication reports that the West intends to help Kiev attack the Crimean bridge.
"The West's next move in the Black Sea is to help Kiev target Crimea and cut the logistics line of Russian troops operating in southern Ukraine," the authors of the article claim.
They emphasised that the Crimean bridge is one of the keys to destroying the logistics line of the Russian Federation for its troops in Crimea.
It is noted that Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky is asking the West for German Taurus cruise missiles.
The Hill called these missiles the only weapon that can help Ukraine destroy the Crimean bridge.

🔴 Hungary does not plan to discuss Sweden's NATO accession
Hungary's spring parliamentary session includes 18 bills and amendments, but MPs have not put Sweden's NATO membership on the agenda.
Moreover, in the spring of 2022, after Sweden and Finland applied to join the alliance, Prime Minister Viktor Orban claimed that Hungarians would support their accession.
And while there have been no delays with the Finns, the Swedes have met one obstacle to NATO after another.
The Hungarian parliament's refusal to discuss Sweden's accession to NATO may be linked to an unspoken conflict between the two countries.
The Hungarian government believes that the Swedish prime minister was trying to put pressure on Hungary and the Swedish minister for EU affairs was proposing to stop the transfer of EU aid to Hungary.

🇩🇪 Farmers' protests in Germany have led to a sharp decline in the popularity of the ruling coalition
Judging by the latest polls published by the media, the most popular party in Germany has become the Alternative for Germany.
👔 😡 Scholz and his team, who ruined the country's economy, are likely to justify themselves by screaming that the right-wing coming to power will only sow chaos (they say everything is fine now) and recognise the AfG as an "extremist" party again. Given the situation, this is unlikely to stop the collapse of the ruling Social Democrats' ratings.

🌍 Not just China and India. Russia's trade turnover with Africa has grown by more than a third.
Africa's economy is growing faster than any other continent, so its market is strategically important for Russia.
At the end of 2023, exports increased the most: from $13bn to $20bn for the year. Imports from Africa to Russia also increased by about 10 per cent.
The African direction is in many ways favourable for Russia, as the continent's countries are largely rich in resources, but have a weak technological base.
That is, the Russian side can offer its experience in the construction and operation of roads and railways, ports, oil and gas pipelines, and utility networks. Let's not forget about arms sales as well.
