🇨🇩#PeopleHistory | Today, on the anniversary of his brutal assassination, we remember the Congolese Pan-Africanist and African Liberation Fighter Patrice Lumumba.
Lumumba was a leader of the Congolese struggle for independence and the newly liberated country’s first prime minister. Within ten weeks of being elected, Lumumba’s government was deposed in a coup and he was imprisoned. From prison Lumumba wrote a letter to his wife Pauline. He said, “The day will come when history will speak. But it will not be the history which will be taught in Brussels, Paris, Washington or the United Nations. It will be the history which will be taught in the countries which have won freedom from colonialism and its puppets. Africa will write its own history and in both north and south it will be a history of glory and dignity.”
His brutal assassination on January 17, 1961 was carried out in collusion with the CIA, Belgium, France, and England.
As Pan Africanism Today wrote, “On this day, January 17, let us remember Patrice Lumumba's unwavering dedication to the struggle for the Congo's political and economic independence. His vision of a united, free, and prosperous Africa remains an inspiration to all people struggling against the shackles of imperialism and colonialism - from the Congo to Palestine and beyond.”

JUSTICE FOR LEONARD PELTIER
Indigenous leader and the longest-held political prisoner in the United States, Leonard Peltier, is set to be free. US President Joe Biden has commuted the life sentence imposed on Peltier, who is 80 years old and is suffering from severe health ailments due to his imprisonment. Peltier has spent the majority of his life (nearly half a century) in prison.
This commutation will enable Mr. Peltier to spend his remaining days in home confinement, yet he was not pardoned for the crimes which he has insisted for over 50 years, that he did not commit.
