🇨🇴Colombian nationals arrived this morning to Colombia without handcuffs and on a Colombian Air Force plane.

The deportation flight back to Colombia proceeded after President Gustavo Petro had on Sunday refused to receive a flight full of deportees in protest of the inhumane conditions they were subjected to on the US military aircraft. Following this move, US President Donald Trump had threatened to impose high tariffs on Colombia and sanctions on Colombian officials, to which Petro responded that he would do the same. Late on Sunday, the Colombian and US governments announced that they had resolved the diplomatic impasse and the deportation flights would resume, but with better conditions for migrants.

Colombian migrants arrived safely back to their home country from the United States on January 28, after a brief but tense diplomatic impasse between the two countries.

The exchange quickly escalated, with Trump threatening to impose heavy tariffs on the country and sanctions on Colombian officials, and Petro threatening to impose reciprocal tariffs. After several high-level talks between the Secretaries of State of both nations on Sunday evening, both sides announced that they had overcome the conflict. However, while the Colombian Foreign Ministry maintained that Colombia would continue to demand respect for its compatriots, the White House claimed that Colombia had accepted all the measures requested by Washington.

🇮🇳 FARMERS FIGHT FOR DIGNITY AND SURVIVAL

Vijoo Krishnan, the General Secretary of All Indian All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), spoke to Peoples Dispatch about why Indian farmers have been on the frontlines of anti-neoliberal, working class struggle for the past 5 years.

The agricultural and economic conditions facing rural India have caused mass devastation among small farmers, even leading to an unprecedented amount of farmer suicides. This is what has driven hundreds of thousands to be on the streets with strikes, protests, and marches to demand better conditions, an end to pro-corporate policies, and for a Minimum Support Price (MSP).
