We all grow up with certain facts of life.

The sky is blue and grass is green.

Doctors fix you, the news tells you what to believe and viruses 'go around'.

These are fundamental beliefs that we take for granted.

Shifting a deep-rooted belief requires something so powerful it forces us to reconsider our most basic beliefs.

The Confidence Trick: Lying in Plain Sight

A con is simple.

It exploits our subconscious belief that there are consequences for lying.

Example: We are constantly told that 'reputable news sources' are to be trusted.
Why? Because they have a reputation that will be lost if they lie.
Except they lie all the time and nothing happens.

The Confidence Trick is saying a lie with so much confidence — people subconsciously think "no way he's lying so confidently".

It's making false claims, then posting a link to a research paper. Except the research paper has nothing to do with the topic.
People think: "well surely the link must prove what he says it does, otherwise he wouldn't post it"

It's constructing scientific-sounding narratives using technobabble knowing the average consumer won't understand.
People think: "well surely he wouldn't sound so smart if he didn't know what he's talking about"

It's applying false frames on conversation, knowing that people will subconsciously assume the logic must be correct.
People think: "well surely aluminum is safe when bound up, otherwise why would he pretend it is?"

The Confidence Trick is all about sneaking faulty information into your mind — fooling you by using your subconscious biases and trust in people.
It often works best as part of a group of other lies... the more confusion the easier it is to overwhelm people and thus hide the lies.

Tricking you with Terminology: Absorption

You've probably heard people say before: "X is not absorbed by the body".

It's another lie they tell about Zeolite.

I remember at some point a Zeolite Zealot had repeated this talking point to me, and I found it so odd... so I looked it up.

I was absolutely shocked.

When talking about ingesting something... absorption just means crossing the intestinal barrier.

So if you eat a cherry pit, then defecate it out... sure it went through your entire digestive system, interacted with everything around it... but because it didn't enter your bloodstream it wasn't 'absorbed'.

Words have meaning and language matters.

Do you understand how this is so much bigger than just Zeolite?
