So I tend to lurk and are on the cusp of building my pc

I plan to dual-boot using Majaro and Windows 10. My question is which should I do first so I can access all my files on either OS? I want to use Linux for programming and system maintenance and such. But all the games I want to play work best on Windows plus all the browsers are made for Windows. I just want full control ALL the time

RockPi and an easy place: Panfrost & Wayland on a Rockchip board

Ongoing work on the reverse-engineered Panfrost OpenGL ES driver for Arm Mali GPUs has turned the RK3399 SoC into a very attractive platform to try out Wayland on ARM devices.

Text Based Game in Bash - Help Wanted

Hello! I am a 16 year old who just got into programming. I am fairly new, but I have been trying to learn Bash. I thought a fun project I can attempt is to to make a small text based game based on "Lemonade Stand" from the late 70s. I created a very simple version (works, most of the time) and put it on Github. It would be great if you guys can maybe take a look, give me some feedback (I know my code will be revolting, but hope to learn how to improve it) or even contribute!

I am actively working on it, adding new stuff every few days. It is still in it's really early stages, and I plan to make it something much much bigger then this. I would really appreciate it if you guys can watch the repository and give it a star. It would mean a lot!

Alternatives to ShareX for Linux?

Hey guys, when I used Windows there was a program called ShareX that could do loads of tasks. It's open source and was a great program overall. You could screenshot, screenrecord (NVEC, MP4, webms, gifs), upload files (screeenshots and recordings) and shorten links, etc. Is there any program similar to ShareX for Linux? Help is appreciated, thanks!

Is it safe to assume atomic-upgrade/rollback OSes are the future of Linux?

With Fedora’s Silverblue gaining popularity and NixOS not far behind I can’t help but wonder if every release will eventually adopt that format given all the advantages they offer.

Alienware m17

Morning all, a friend of mine has an Alienware 17 with the 2080 graphics card which does not play nicely with Ubuntu. On windows it will power up fully, adjust for battery only etc just fine. On Ubuntu 18.04 LTS he only gets the low power mode on the graphics card.

The bios is up to date, he’s used a few kernel versions in case it’s a new hardware/kernel issue, and nothing.

Anyone care to brainstorm some ideas?

NFtables alternative to beloved Shorewall or should I try pfSense ?

Debian user for more than twenty years, nothing but Debian on our network and I love how Shorewall reliably made easy managing a bunch of interfaces, VLAN and tunnels with both IPv4 and IPv6.

Alas, IPtables will slowly sunset and NFtables is the future - so it is the end of the road for Shorewall, whose main developer has well-deservedly retired anyway... Time to look for alternatives.

Is there an obvious Shorewall alternative that supports NFtables ? Should I learn raw NFtables ? Or should I break out of Linux monoculture and consider pfSense as a router OS ?
