>Hi Everyone,
>
>After over 16 years, [OSDisc.com](https://OSDisc.com) has closed. If you've ordered from us, help is still available by emailing [support@osdisc.com](mailto:support@osdisc.com)
>
>I started OSDisc to spread Linux and help new users get started. But providing DVDs today has little effect on the spread of Linux. I regularly see small distros that provide tens of thousands of downloads, but few if any DVDs are provided by OSDisc. The vast majority of Linux users are downloading Linux themselves. And that's a great thing to see.
>
>What we've accomplished:
>
>Shipped over 300,000 discs and USB drives
>
>Helped over 110,000 users get started with Linux
>
>Answered over 25,000 tech support tickets
>
>Given back over $200,000 to the open source community
>
>Thank you to everyone for making OSDisc possible for the past 16 years.

I've been a customer for 15 years so a sad day for me. :-( They just fulfilled an order for me a few weeks ago; I will treasure my last DVD's!

first day using linux
today i got frustrated with trying to install moonnoscript on windows , i got enough and i decided to migrate to linux. i first downloaded lubuntu , ubuntu ,popos amd linux mx . i tried them out and decided to stick with lubuntu. i have been using it for hours and im not having any trouble. i figured out how to install software by copy pasting a wall of text from the developer's website to the terminal. hopefully i will set up my development environment tomorrow.

Linux Journal shutting down...again?
So this email just hit my inbox:
>IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM LINUX JOURNAL, LLC:
>
>On August 7, 2019 Linux Journal shut its doors for good. All staff were laid >off and the company is left with no operating funds to continue in any >capacity. The web site will continue to stay up for the next few weeks, >hopefully longer for archival purposes if we can make it happen.

There was a longer letter from the editor attached, but I assume it will be posted online somewhere. As of right now not even [the website](https://www.linuxjournal.com/) seems to reflect this.
Has anyone else received this? I'm incredibly sad to see it go, if so--I've been a subscriber for less than a year and was looking forward to digging into the August issue soon.

[Help] Error with my nextcloudpi project(CONNECTION_REFUSED)
So here's the Story:
I decided that it would be a good idea to have some cloud storage for my own that I don't have to pay for, that doesn't depend on some sort of company and that I can expand if I wanted to. So I installed nextcloudpi on my raspberry pi activated ssh via a file named ssh searched for the ip adress
and activated nextcloud pi in the browser. After I had completed the first setup wizard the problems began. I decided that being able to access my cloud from the Internet would be a good thing and activated my no-ip host name in the router settings and wanted to add it to the "allowed" host names list in ncp when the ncp Websetup site crashed and told me to reload the site. From there one I was no longer able to connect to my Raspberry pi it always said: CONNECTION_REFUSED. I rebooted my computer my raspberry and my router several times dis- and reconnected them from the Internet and tried to setup nextcloud pi manually on the raspberry pi with display and stuff connected but it only displayed No Signal. Please help me! I've got no clue we're my mistake is located and it's slowly driving me crazy
Thanks

Nvidia will never allow Nouveau fully operational
A lot of people on this sub (and on the Internet in general) hope that at some point Nvidia will make it possible for Nouveau to catch up with proprietary driver. It won't, ever.
Nvidia has 2 lines of GPUs: consumer Geforce and professional Quadro. Quadro is much more expensive, but has more features. The problem is that chips inside them are the same or at least very similar. The main reason why Geforces lacks these features is because they are blocked in card's software. If somebody breaks firmware signing process, everybody will be able to hack their cheap Geforces with Quadro firmware. The cash bag of Quadro would lose any reason to exist. Nvidia will do anything to stop that and .01% of their customers who are using Linux and want libre drivers are laughably worthless in comparison.
Firmwares will be signed, drivers will be closed source and any FOSS alternatives will be toys. Stop dreaming, don't feed their business model, never buy Nvidia.
