Kiss Linux, a new independent distribution
You build your installation from text (source) like Gentoo, you choose your kernel from linux.org, init is done through busybox (your own noscripts, or runit, or sysvinit noscripts additionally supported), the C library is MUSL
Yes there is X and there is Firefox, but you can build your own software in a simple, fast, secure environment.
Not for linux newcomers and those unfamiliar with how a Gentoo or Crux installation is done.

Re-calculating BPM for mp3 files
Hi all, I have a huge collection of mp3 files, and I'd like to calculate/re-calculate and store the BPM (Beats Per Minute) values for all the mp3 files. Is there a linux/python noscript that can enable me to do so easily? I was earlier using a Windows program (booting into Windows) to do this, but now I'm looking for something (preferably but not necessarily with GUI) to work on Ubuntu. Any pointers will be appreciated.

Valid books or manuals to prepare for LPI linux essentials certification
Hi
I've decided to begin studying for LPI as i have very basic and vague knowledge of Linux.
My question is: which is a valid manual or book to study on and prepare for this certification?
As of now, I've come across "Linux Essentials: The LPI Introductory Programme", downloadable from OpenLibra:
Is it valid?
Many thanks and best regards

Hulu/Netflix do not offer support for Linux, and HD doesn't work at all
At least for me, using either Firefox (DRM enabled) or Chrome, all video on Hulu appeared to be less than 720p. Definitely far from 1080p, despite having far more speed than is required for it. I talked to a Hulu support rep about it, and they told me they do not offer support for Linux, something to do with its "customizable" nature.
This was after trying and failing to get HD working on Netflix. (They told me about the same.) The add-ons don't work currently and there is no known workaround yet.
I canceled both accounts after telling them why.
While I'd prefer to not have to deal with DRM at all, I would tolerate the situation if the DRM actually fully worked on Linux. It does not, and I'm not giving anyone money for a resolution only appropriate over a decade ago.

We need more graphical programs for intermediate computer users who aren't comfortable with CLI tools
I hear or at least heard, a lot of complaints that you need to open the terminal to use Linux. I'm very comfortable with the terminal, but new users aren't. In order to welcome new users with open arms, distros need to be more user friendly. I have been wanting to learn QT, and I thought trying to make helpful graphical front ends would be a great idea. The first thing that comes to mind, has to be config files. New users don't want to edit files to change settings. That isn't what the majority of people are used to. With all of this being said, what CLI program do you wish had a graphical front end?
