Hardening the "file" utility for Debian
The file

untrusted input. But an effort to add seccomp()
filtering to file for Debian has run aground. The upstream file project has added

What happens when you launch a fresh install of Firefox? I was curious, so I did so with version 68.0.2, and monitored my network activity. Here's what I learned…

#linfehack - in Chrome/Chromium when you click the new tab button with your scroll wheel it will immidiately open search results with the contents of your clipboard
I've tested it on a couple of systems and it uses the default search engine.
Does not work on Windows (duh).

I measured how long the most popular Linux distribution’s package manager take to install small and large packages.

Restored disk image, recover previous data?
Hello,
I recently restored a disk image on an external SSD. The issue is, I only wanted to restore the image of a single partition, not the entire disk. A careless mistake.
I have a feeling it's possible to recover the lost data, and figured this is the best place to ask for advice.
How, if possible, can I recover the data?
Thanks

imv v4.0 released - a lightweight image viewer for X11 and Wayland
Today marks the v4.0 release of [imv](https://github.com/eXeC64/imv): a
minimalistic image viewer with support for dozens of file formats, including
animated gifs and SVG.
For users of Sway, i3, dwm, or other tiling window managers, imv provides a
lightweight way to view almost any image, with customisable key bindings,
auto-reloading, and the ability to run arbitrary shell commands. imv integrates
natively with both X11 and Wayland, allowing users to run a pure Wayland
desktop environment if preferred. It is also portable, running on Linux, BSDs,
and Hurd.
v4.0 provides much improved support for extending imv's functionality with
shell noscripts. Also added is improved keyboard layout support, hidpi support on
Wayland, native resolution rendering of SVGs at any zoom level, and much more.
I've been working on this release for some time, so I hope you like it. Extensive
refactoring has been undertaken to improve imv in many small ways.
A full list of changes for v4 can be found in the [CHANGELOG](https://github.com/eXeC64/imv/blob/master/CHANGELOG).

People with Dark Themes
For all of use that are using dark themes, how do you handle the transition between the dark screens in your desktop environment and the bright white screens of most website? I'd love to start using a dark theme, too, but I can't seem to get past the jarring experience from switching between, say, vim and firefox.
