People with Dark Themes

For all of use that are using dark themes, how do you handle the transition between the dark screens in your desktop environment and the bright white screens of most website? I'd love to start using a dark theme, too, but I can't seem to get past the jarring experience from switching between, say, vim and firefox.

How long after release of a new major release do you wait to put a Linux server into production?

I'm curious what info is out there with regards to deploying a new Linux Major version release such as the upcoming CentOS 8, into Prod. For comparison I understand that many 'seasoned' Windows sysadmins will wait a significant amount of time after initial release before deploying any new Windows Server into production; a practice which seems to hold value even now after more than a decade of needful yet frustrating compliance.

Linux enjoys a significantly reduced fear factor in this arena but it still seems prudent to wait a bit after the initial release. On the other hand, since CentOS is such a close clone of RHEL I would think there is less reason for a long trial period since RHEL has now basically gone through such a period and any needed fixes would be relatively quick and easy to deploy downstream (forgive me if this is faulty thinking).

Now, in my case I'm just talking basic standalone servers for things such as DHCP, DNS, CA, etc. but I'd love to get a take on various deployment situations also.

So what are your thoughts?

Dear Windows,

You are fucking insufferable. As my work uses some Windows only software, I am required to have an instance of you. For the last four months I've been booting one of my three Linux instances. After attempting a Windows boot to play some LAN games with my homies, you've started some disk checking procedure, after which you've failed to boot completely. Now you really want to do an "automatic" repair which will most certainly overwrite the MBR of my machine. This will then force me to reinstall GRUB and spend valuable time fixing my entire system. What I'm really curious about is, how did you manage to break yourself being on your own SSD? Next time I'll try to run Halo in Wine.

Thanks bro,

-Walker

So i just moved to Linux !

After being tired of reinstalling windows every few months because of it slowing down and becoming laggy as hell,i decided to install Linux on my laptop.

I have zero experience with it,i followed a tutorial on Youtube like a newbie and everything went fine. After setting up some few things i ran into a small issue,WIFI was slow as hell and signal was weak too.

But i didn’t give up,stayed until 4AM looking for a solution and i fixed it,so now i have full WIFI bars and fast internet !

I was shocked of how my laptop was running Linux without any CPU or FAN noise,so quiet and cold,RAM usage is insane too, only 20% used out of my 8GB while using and updating...etc,insane !

It seems i’m loving it so far,the only thing i’m scared of is the lack of compatibility, since i’m student,i use microsoft office a lot,i don’t think they can work on Linux but i ll see how it goes.

For gaming, not a big deal i’m not a big gamer, maybe i’ll try some games on it,but it’s not my priority.

If you guys have any advices or tips for someone who just started Linux,i’m here and will be so thankful.

Tip : I installed Linux Mint 19.2.

Virglrenderer 0.8.0 & the state of virtualized virtual worlds

With the release of virglrenderer 0.8.0, getting accelerated OpenGL within a virtual machine (VM) made a big leap forward. Here's the latest:
