Eight years ago this month, the Nokia N9 went on sale. It was Nokia's first and last MeeGo device. It could have been the first of a modern Linux-based line of devices, but Nokia had already chosen Microsoft as its way forward.

As a Linux platform based on mature technologies, and with the combined backing of Nokia and Intel, [MeeGo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MeeGo) could have become a good competitor to Android, with a touch-centric interaction model very similar to the current mobile OS versions.

We could have had non-Android Linux devices hitting the mainstream market many years ago, running an OS that's more flexible than Android and fully open source. The tight grip that Google holds over OEMs and over more and more basic features of Android, moved to or linked to proprietary services and code, could have been prevented.

Which Distribution for Webserver?

Hey there, I'm about to create my own Webserver and at this point not sure what's best. Ubuntu or Debian? Debian 10 was just released, but most vps provider sell with debian 9... Is there anything negative about 10(Buster)?

Or leave debian and use Ubuntu?

Graphical Device Manager for Linux (Enable / Disable Devices without Blacklisting)

I recently started working on a graphical device manager for Linux which would allow you to disable and enable devices without blacklisting the kernel module.

It's not yet complete but it's getting close.

I don't know of any GUI tool for Linux that would allow you to disable / enable internal devices in the same or similar way that some other graphical OSes do and the sole reason I started working on this is because I could not find one that does it.

This is my second post and I am trying to start a project that would evoke interest in the community but have no intention of continuing on working on something that the Linux community has no interest about so I don't want to waste my time for something no one likes.

Make a monumental effort to stop being a dick

I've recently moved to Arch and after four years "living" in the computer science environment. I knew about Arch's reputation of noob hating but man. Literally every post in the "Newbie Corner" of Arch Forums has a MOD, which is someone who's supposed to help users and care for the community, noob hating or being somehow rude to a beginner. I mean, the post is in the god damn Newbie Corner, have a little bit of respect for your fellow humans.


So please make this monumental effort and just answer what people ask without sarcasm or bullying. This is serious guys. (Ubuntu's community is a great example of how you don't need to be a dick :)

Anyone using a 120Hz+ display getting smooth mouse movement on Wayland ?

I've tried switching to Wayland every 6 months for the past 2 years and every time the mouse is way more jittery than on Xorg. Has anything improved for anyone ? Is it just a GNOME thing ?

Temperature offset on Kernel 5.1.x (Ryzen 3700x)

I've built a system using a x570 Asrock Titan Steel Legend mainboard and a Ryzen 3700x cpu (using the stock wraith and also tried a 212 Tower cooler). I did post in Amd and Amd Support but no one has been able to answer.

What I'm seeing is on post in the Bios base temps are 49-55c (room is cool). When Linux boots and I watch the sensors output I'll see 31-35c, no issues. Run a short stress test in prime or stress and the entire machine will shut off at 63-65c, yet the processor is capable of thermal cuts up to 80-90c.

I'm runing Arch (also tried Manjaro) with 5.1.x series kernel, memory/etc is stable, no overclocking, voltage is tuned down a tad since otherwise it'll thermal cut earlier.

This really seems like some sort of thermal/hardware issue I need to sort out, but I'm wondering if anyone running Linux and a Ryzen 3000 knows the proper offset for this processor/combo.
