What is the etiquette with pull requests? I've done something that I truly believe will help people, but I don't own the project. I don't want to fork it as that doesn't really help anyone since it is a relatively small change.

My problem is that the project owner appears to be ignoring my pull request, there's no update, the weeks have gone by. It could be procrastination, it could be genuine thinking, but a short "I'll look and let you know by ..." would be great. In dating, is this called "orbiting"?

Petition to liberate the Steam Controller?

Now that Valve has decided to no longer produce the Steam Controller, how many of you would be interested in petitioning them to release it and all associated software via the MIT, GPL, or some other license?

I tried to order four additional controllers when they went on sale as I find the Steam Controller the most versatile and feature complete HID out there. It doesn't replace a keyboard or a mouse, but it makes up for those shortcomings by doing things that a keyboard and mouse don't (I hate playing Super Meat Boy on a keyboard regardless of how good I am at it). Now that I know I will never be able to replace the official Steam Controller once mine wears out, I want to be free to purchase one from someone who is willing to supply the demand. There has to be a manufacturer out there that is willing to produce it for people like me going forward, or perhaps the community can rally and we do it ourselves.

I believe the one and only true shortcoming that caused the lack of adoption of the steam controller was it's complete dependence on the steam client and not an independent driver/software package. That was the "killer" failure of the controller for me. Valve's failure to make the controller more successful boils down to trying to force people into their cage to use it. They have no intention of selling the product anymore and it's basically abandon-ware now. Are you willing to sign a petition requesting Valve liberate it and let the community take the reins where they've decided to drop them?

What will the future of firewalls on linux look like?

Historically, iptables (and friends) has been the way to manage a firewall on linux (possibly using a gui or cli wrapper), then nftables came along and was supposed to replace iptables, but then bpfilter came along. And even after reading several blog posts about it, I'm still not really sure how bpfilter fits in. Will iptables and/or nftables just be changed to use bpf as the implementation, or will both get replaced by something else that uses eBPF to implement packet filtering? I guess what I'm really asking is, is there some project in the works to replace nftables or is nftables going to stick around for a while?

Some DON'Ts for a linux beginner??

I started to try linux as a primary OS last week and while learning some terminal commands on the terminal I've learnt about how to rename directories and I changed the workspace name (I thought it was ok because no pop-ups appeared saying that it could damage my computer). Nothing happened at first but, after I restarted my notebook, a system error happened because of that and I had to re-install linux and lost some files.

Therefore, do you guys have some advises for me of things that's better not to change on linux?
