The best measure of what makes distro good is how big the team working on it too

I think that we can all have preferences and that is natural. However, I think the reason that Ubuntu is the best distro is a simple numbers game. Canonical is a big company with hundreds of employees. if we compare that to the other distros and the number of coders working on each one of those distro‘s we will see that at most it is a team of 10 or 15. Clearly the work that will be done by teams of 10 times the magnitude of those smaller teams will be better and more polished. Plus canonical has a brand reputation to keep that actually affects their financial bottom line compared to other distro teams that do this because of other non-financial needs (e.g. side project, fun, etc). I am not saying the other distros are bad I am just saying that Ubuntu will provide the best and most polished experience because of the size of the team that is working on it. Additionally most of the other distros rely on Ubuntu to create their own distro’s and most of the time I noticed that most of the bugs in those distro’s come from the little additions they have on top of the Ununtu base. So you can hate canonical all you want but truly it offers the most stable distro on the market. so please if there anything that I need to know about this and if I’m wrong correct me.

What to do...

My wife is running Windows 7 on her computer. With the end of support looming soon I'm kind of in a bind. She doesn't like linux at all and her computer will probably not run Windows 10. I'll have to look at her specs again but I'm sure it's not enough to run 10 well. She's on temporary disability until she's completley healed from her 3 joint replacements last year so I'm wondering if I have time to teach her how to use linux or if I should just buy her a new computer with Windows 10 on it.

She is not computer literate at all. She gets frustrated easily with new (to her) technology.

What would you guys do in this scenario?

Divorce, murder, etc. is NOT an option.

Use VR for multiple desktops while traveling for work?

So... I have had a dream about VR for years now -- To be able to use it for work. I travel a lot for my job, I work on 3 - 5 monitors at home, and when I'm mobile I'm using just the one on my poor laptop.

My laptop isn't bad, it has an RX 560 and it can do a lot of gaming handily for how little I paid for it.

I tried a year ago to get VR on my laptop to work but it wasn't there yet. Combination of drivers, and everything else not quite being ready.

Now I've read about https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xrdesktop/xrdesktop but I've not seen anything concrete on if I can use it for the purpose of multi desktop simulation so I can work in privacy/peace (And turn off primary display of laptop while I am working).

Anyone have any ideas on doing something like this? Also recommend me a VR headset (cheaper the better but I assume has to be 4k to avoid it looking like trash)

Acer AN515-42 laptop, update the UEFI without windows?

As it says, I'm running Ubuntu Mate 19.10, the tools to make a windows installer don't even work with Microsoft's poorly made official ISOs to be able to update the UEFI.

This is rogue moderation getting out of hand

You might as well ban me from here all together to "protect the public".
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/ejn5c5/arch_2020_welcomes_its_little_brothers_and/?ref_source=embed&ref=share

With something as serious as this, as the compression of binaries by some "controversial and questionable" algorithm, in one of the most popular distributions, with arch only contributing a handful of sentences WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, AS WARNING to users, of their change, and r/linux moderation seeks and finds some excuse to claim a rule violation.

This is real crap, there is NO VIOLATION and if there is remove about 80% of the posts here, otherwise you are manufacturing an excuse to silence this and keep users in the dark!

This is an article of a blog that has many followers, it has been around for quite a while, with hundreds of posts, on wordpress server that is free (sorry I don't get paid by IBM or Facebook to write this, it is open and free journalism), r/linux is THE FIRST TIME this article was posted on reddit (and please provide evidence it is a repost - if it is a repost of THIS elsewhere it is none of your business - r/linux was the original post of the link, let alone the article itself)

IF YOU DO FIND MY CLAIM REASONABLE PLEASE REMOVE THE VINDICTIVE MODERATOR FROM LINUX AND REDDIT ALL TOGETHER - HE IS DANGEROUS

IF NOT REMOVE THIS AN ME FROM R/LINUX, I'DON'T NEED THIS

BUT ARCH USERS SHOULD BE WARNED THEIR BINARIES ARE ENCODED AND DECODED BY FACEBOOK'S CREATION BEFORE THEY GET INSTALLED

How to create Bootable USB for iMac?

Well, what Rufus does, does not work for iMac. I tried to find a solution, but they only tell how to do this using the Mac OS. I'd like to install Linux at a old iMac (Power G5)

It looks like this is what I need to do:

* Create Mac OS Extended disk format
* Use GUID partition table
* Convert .ISO to .IMG

So if this is right, what application from Windows or Linux could do this?
