What Linux distro for my Mac?
Hey!
I was looking to try Linux on my old Mac (2009 MBP with a Core 2 Duo and 4G of ram). I was looking into Elementary OS, but wasn’t sure. I’m looking for it to be light for just web browsing, and because the battery is fading. But, I also want the interface to look clean. Is Elementary my best bet?
Thanks

Currently trying out Runit
And I'm so far loving it. It's very snappy, quick to add new services to, and starts services as soon as they are added while the system is live. So so smooth. Also, the service file creation is very easy.
I'm currently building a very lightweight Artix build and using Runit as my init, Connman as my network manager (took a bit of fiddling around and whatnot to get my wireless working properly), neovim as my editor, and Bspwm for my window manager. My system is still extremely barebones but going through the customizations and whatnot is so fun.
Anyone else try out Runit or Bspwm here?

[Question] Linux usability tricks
Hi there cloud of wisdom!
first of all I would like to remark that although not completely new to Linux, it is not my daily operating system, so this is a beginner question.
I am working towards the Red Hat certification and I feel like losing my eyesight working with the console and the amount of wrapped and unstructured text on it. I have managed to change the prompt, but I feel it is not enough for me.
I was wondering, what are you guys doing to increase the shell usability, and Linux in general? What are your tricks?
I was thinking on something that makes information in the shell easier to digest, like:
* Permissions clearly separated lrwxrwxrwx. -> l rwx rwx rwx.
* Thousands separator on figures 230296 -> 230,296
* Some automatic coloring
* Clearly identify when text is wrapped
These are just examples, but I am sure there are many others.
Does exist something like this? What are your veteran tricks for usability?
NOTE: I am using RHEL and Bash shell
NOTE2: Examples of what I mean:

Looking for help setting up Qemu VM (running windows) with a Windows host.
Hello! I've been playing with VMs for about 8 years now and really stuck to just VMware. However, my issue is that certain games auto boot me because their anti-cheat detects a VM.
I have read that Qemu successfully runs the games I want AND completely outshines VMware. I've been reading guides and watching videos, but I am still stuck. I am not too familiar with command lines and it seems Qemu appeals to the Linux crowd.
I am more than willing to pay for someone's time to show me the simple ropes of Qemu. Reply here or send me a message and I will PM you my Discord.
Thanks!

Is it safe to stop DDrescue now ?
So here's the case. My old drive started to fail and soon was inaccessible from Windows. I have a Dual Boot between Windows 10 and Kali Linux. So DDrescue is stuck. It is in the end of the drive where there should be no data. The drive is small(320 gigs) but also very slow. The end of the drive is full of unreadable data but I am sure that it's a data that I tried to copy before the drive failed so it is nothing important, because somehow using testdisk checked what and where is it. Here's a screenshot of my current state(look at the end of the console. I forgot to clear it before starting bruh xD): [CLICK](https://imgur.com/a/7p1mty5)
My questions:
1. Is it safe to interrupt DDrescue in copying Pass 5 stage and will the image be readable if I try to flash it onto the new drive.
2. Is there any way that I can interrupt DDrescue and change the command so it will skip this whole bad area full of junk. I have a log file. The command I used: ddrescue -d -r2 /dev/sdb1 backup.raw backup.lo
Any thoughts ?

Why is auto-scrolling not a default option for the common web browsers?
So on firefox you have to go into the options to actually activate it, while in chromium you have to install an extension.
It just seems strange to me that what I thought is a essential feature to a modern web browser is hidden away in the settings or even not available on these big name browsers in linux.
What is the reason for that?

Distro recommendation for office server?
Im going to be setting up a small local server at work to host some datasets and some internal tools we’re working on. Basically it has to run some Docker containers, back itself up to off-site storage every so often and monitoring and logging the services it’s running. Reliability is the main concern with this system.
My plan was just to install Ubunto 18.04 since I’m familiar with it and it’s easy to set up, but I’m just wondering if there is a distro which is optimized specifically for this function.
