Davinci Resolve file formats? (free version)
Hi everyone,
Since the free version of Davinci Resolve doesn't support h.264 on Linux, what file format does everyone recommend I work with? (I'd like to keep transcoding to a minimum where possible)

Thunderbolt 3 daisy chaining, is there a way to monitor utilization?
I may be thinking of this wrong, but looking for advice. I have quite a few intel nucs in my lab, and utilize tb3 pcie breakout boxes to run things like 10gbe nics, nvme cards, sometimes egpu and so on. Each "node" has thunderbolt in and out, where I can connect another device. Is there a way to measure or monitor the usage of the the bus? Does each device share or claim a lane? If I run an nvme pcie card would that kill performance of the tb3 "chain"?

PinPhone early adopters edition (Braveheart) started shipping. AMA.
Hello Everyone,
Lukasz Erecinski from PINE64 here. We have just started shipping the early adopters edition (Braveheart) of the PinePhone. For those who do not know, the PinePhone is a smartphone that supports multiple open source mobile operating systems and is built with community input from the ground-up.
With shipping now underway, I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the current state of the PinePhone and its future. I’ll be here to answer your questions for much of today's day and (ad-hoc) in the coming days. I leave the exact duration of this AMA at mods discretion.
Ask away!

RFC 3339 everywhere, how hard can it be?
I'd like to use the RFC 3339 (ISO 8601) date format everywhere. Once getting used to, reading 2020-01-20 is so quick and unambiguous.
Why is it so hard to configure a Linux system (its locale settings) to get RFC 3339 formatted dates everywhere? Sure, I can \`ls -l --time-style=full-iso\`, \`git log --date=iso\`, \`date --iso-8601=s\`, \`date --rfc-3339=s\` and change the configuration of every single application by hand. Am I missing something?

[observations] when I moved to Arch from ,Windows 10 and even Ubunu 19, I noticed my laptop become so quiet. I'm loving it.
Glad moved to Linux. No thermal heat issues. Only problem is lack of better working windows manager based on xorg/ Wayland , Xorg is old , Wayland not quiet ready.
Im dreaming a world , where Wayland becomes quiet usable and atleast a minimal support by Nvidia is very much appreciated.

[Recommendation] Is there any book that teaches you through breaking Linux?
I just finished How Linux Works and I'm looking for to go deeper into learning how to recover from Linux failures!!
Is the anything similar? A book about common mistakes/erros and how to solve them?
Thank you!!!

notcurses 1.1.0 with improved video rendering, plane pulsing, mouse, painter's algorithm etc.
Hey all! Last month I posted here with the 0.9.1 release of notcurses, my fusion of ncurses-like functionality with multimedia, transparency, and 24bpc RGB color. I yesterday released 1.1.0, and it's now pretty much complete, definitely usable. I've recorded a fresh demo here (this time it shouldn't blow out your ears, hopefully):
[Awesome 1.1.0 demo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H1WkopWJNM)

I'd say I'm now at SNES levels of TUI graphics; the Chun Li sprites are hand-coded, \*not\* ffmpeg inductions:

[chun li rendered in front of a wall of unicode \(https:\/\/nick-black.com\/images\/chunli.png\)](https://preview.redd.it/9gb4kf6hf1c41.png?width=722&format=png&auto=webp&s=d2e0bd0d9beb3f9c91452b605c4e8ecf693b0082)
The "Terminal Phase" game from earlier today motivated me to post this, as notcurses is really tailor-made for that kind of thing. I've also rewritten the UI of my "growlight" disk management tool using notcurses, and it looks great IMHO:

I'd love for people to take this and go do cool things! I've written out man pages for all functionality now, so it's pretty well documented. I also wrote up experimental Python wrappers. I'm just looking for users :). Please ask me any questions, and report any bugs! Sorry to post again so soon, just it's come a long way in a short time :D. Hack on!

Less brutal ereader/pdf software?
Hey all,
I've been using evince to read PDFs for a while now, and it can grow somewhat weary on the eyes late at night. It has the option to invert colors, but frankly that's also pretty [harsh](https://i.imgur.com/0bhT5Kr.png). Is there anything kicking around out there that might have a more gentle type of dark theme, like that of spotify or [materia-dark](https://i.imgur.com/XJrwIWD.png), which I'm using as a gtk theme.
The only other things I'm invested in are chapter section hyperlinks and highlighting; I don't need a million shortcuts or anything. Thanks!
