What is the purpose of GNOME's desktop screen now it it doesn't support desktop icons?

I don't understand why it hasn't been removed. Surely it would make more sense for the screen with all the applications to be the new default/desktop screen, and have the "opened windows screen" come up when you press the super key. That way you could simplify stuff and get rid of the desktop screen altogether?

Difference between sudo -i and su root

Hi friends :)

I try to understand the following:

What is the difference between **sudo -i** and **su root**?

For example:

If I run **sudo -i** followed by **service postgresql start** -> The command runs

If I run **su root** followed by **service postgresql start** -> The comman doesn't run and I have to use **sudo service postgresql start** instead.

This is what I fail to understand. I am, at least according to my console, using the root user for both commands, but for one I need sudo and for the other not.

Thanks a bunch!

Why are almost all the linux distros, have shitty sizing of icons, taskbar and fonts?

I found so many feature-full distros but I just can't work with it. Fractional resizing does not exist and if it does, it messes up all the other apps. The only distro that has normal humame sizing of the desktop is deepin but it is laggy and buggy, out of date in comparison to other distros. I need help. I have tried all flavours of Ubuntu, Manjaro and so many more. I need Logisim app but can't get it running on Deepin, and other distros just mess up the logisim app.

Capturing commands sent via ssh

Hey guys. I am wanting to see if anybody has a noscript that logs commands entered via ssh?

Basically I need a way to document all my commands I use through ssh along with timestamps.

[Discussion/Help] Post your Daily setup or Help me find the right one.

G'Day Fellas,

Bit of a Discussion here.

I very much want to use Linux full-time on my daily computers, as I'm fairly used to it by now, after being a sysadmin for the system.

# The only problem holding me back is a bit of a non-issue;

The lack of a consistent DE.

I just... can't seem to find the right one that will work for me. The closest I can get is either KDE or Windowmaker. Former offering great consistency and smooth performance but taking up a shit tonne of system resources with all of its default applications, and the Latter offering such a lightweight and familiar experience (Used to daily GNUSTEP/OpenSTEP Stuff) but lacks any modern support for trivial things, such as dual monitors. I know Windowmaker isn't really a family of software, but it's familiar and lightweight performance really appeals to me, using a computer from 2006.

I know the perfect DE/WM suite doesn't exist, but I'd love to get as close as possible to the ***somewhat*** consistency of NT Operating systems ( I say somewhat because W8/10 has cucked that up a bit) where Windows + R = Run, Control Panel adjusts everything, and Window Snap is always as fluid as ever. I'm not staying on Windows, I'd rather receive cock and ball torture than give away my personal data.

So, Linux community I ask you this; **What's your Daily Setup like to get work done/familiarize yourself with, and do you have any recommendations for me?** Provide pics or text details, I don't care. Would just love some friendly input from you guys.

Big Cheers
