Idea for a low-cost, low-power, 3d-printed raspberry pi-based backup

My problem is that it's tough to get good backups in remote locations.


So, I'm looking at making a low-power, low-cost backup machine (using ZFS, but you could use it with any others). It seems like the pieces are coming together, and I want to gather some thoughts before I dive in. Let me know how I can improve the design - or if you think there might be others interested.


Spoiler: I'm thinking of using a 3d-printed case.

Installing Linux on an M.2 SSD - a few questions regarding duel booting on my PC, grub bootloader, etc.

I just learned that my [motherboard](https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b450m-pro4/p/N82E16813157843?Item=N82E16813157843) has an M.2 slot to install an M.2 SSD, which I plan to install Linux on

I go back to school this April to pursue a degree and career in Enterprise Networking/IT - not sure specifically which direction I want to go, but as I begin to learn I know I'll notice areas I like more than others.

Anyway - I'd like to start learning Linux to give me a head start. This quarter I am taking a class called Ethical Hacking which uses Kali Linux. I am reading that this is the best way to learn and get comfortable with Linux is to just use it for my daily computing tasks. I know it's pretty easy to install Linux on an a SSD for that matter but that's pretty much it

I keep reading about the "grub bootloader" which I am kind of confused about, so I was hoping I could get some more info regarding it, how to install Linux with it and easily which between each OS. Does the grub bootloader make it so I don't have to jump into the BIOS every time and pick which drive I want to boot from? Does it make that process smoother? Is the grub bootloader automatically installed with any distribution of Linux I choose? Or it something I have to manually install myself once I install the OS? Any other info regarding it is appreciated.

Linux on new 2020 Macbook Air

I prefer Apple hardware (build quality, aesthetics, portability) and Linux software (Void, Slackware, minimal, no systems, stable). Think "best of both worlds" and , yes, have also used Lenovo/Dell, etc. Has anyone tried Linux on the new MB Air in terms of hardware conpatability?

Hello.

I\`m new to the linux world. "have some on my lab."

I\`m looking in to innstaling on my main system on a seperate disk for duel boot .

AMD Ryzen 7 3700x CPU

HyperxFury DDR4 32GB RAM

Asus RX 5700 XT GPU

Linux will get a 2 tb drive alone.

The Question.
Witch linux distro wil be the best one to start with? And with the qestion in mind, i want to run 3 screens like i do in my Windows enviroment.

Tried this on an older system, but that system had 3 gpus and failed hard.

Ubuntu and Pop OS comes to mind on relative compatible Os and allot of easy documentation.

ZombieTrackerGPS 0.96 released (Linux GPS mapping application)

I've released a new version of ZombieTrackerGPS, version 0.96.

ZTGPS is a Linux+KDE native PIM application satisfying the same purpose as Garmin's "BaseCamp" software, which does not run on Linux.

ZTGPS provides sophisticated query and sorting capabilities for GPS tracks. This application is targeted at outdoor sports and recreation such as hiking, cycling, sailing, skiing, and others. I wrote it because Garmin's own software was the last thing tying me to a Windows VM, and it also didn't provide a number of capabilities I wanted in such a tool such as robust query facilities.

It's spyware free, with no data scraping or monetization, and fully open source. It also supports open datasets such as OpenStreetMap and Open Bike&Hike maps. Donation links for OSM, Debian, and KDE are provided in-app in the "Help/About..." window.

ZTGPS is Qt based for KDE or LXQt desktops, but (I hope) should work in other desktops to the extent any Qt apps do. It will use the KDE settings (UI colors, etc) in that case.

Other than a desktop, how are linux distros different?

Hey friends, intermediate linux user here... in my 2 years using linux I've tried at least 2 dozen distros. The most notable difference being the desktop enviroment.

What's the benifits if each branch "under the hood". I know terminal commands change slightly, but other than that are there any major differences I should know about?

I'm Linux user , questions about cuda on Wayland.

I recently moved away from Xorg , I have a recently bought a laptop with Nvidia latest graphics card. I dont really mind with it , but I would like to use cuda computing units on my Wayland setup. O know Nvidia doesn't support Wayland ( I use swaywm doesn't support nvidia). Is there any way I can just use the graphics card for computing purpose?

targetcli saveconfig.json blank after reboot

Running Ubuntu 19.10, i go through and configure targetcli and save to saveconfig.json. Everything works as expected until i reboot. the saveconfig.json file is wiped and i have to run targetctl restore.
man page says:

saveconfig
Save the current configuration settings to a file, from which settings will be restored if the system is rebooted. By default, this will save the configuration to
/etc/rtslib-fb-target/saveconfig.json.




I've got to be missing something simple here.
