Beowulf Cluster Kernel for Distributed OS (with GUI)?
\* skip to the IDEA if you drgaf \*
Disclaimer: Before you flay me, hear me out, I mostly get why this would normally be a bad idea (i.e. people trying to run a single game distributed on multiple different MBs). I also know enough to be pretty confident that this can be done, though it may be super time consuming and not worth it at all.. but I'm strapped for cash and It'd be nice to have a computer that's better at multitasking than any one of these pieces of sh-... I mean \~2013 ultrabooks..
IDEA:
while individual tasks can't be distributed across machines (because bus length and delay stuff), I think it would be possible to distribute programs as individual real-time jobs and handle each program on a different machine. To speed things up the desktop GUI could be rendered on each node and summed/layered on the head node to form the full OS GUI. I'm sure this would add some overhead but it could be quick enough to be worth it if the headnode isn't too slow.
\---
I'm hoping there's something like this out there already because I'm pretty sure you could modify an existing kernel to get this going but I also know how difficult that could get... but I'm open to modifying the kernel myself to try to get this going. are there any VMs that can simulate clustered setups? or could this be done by linking multiple parallel instances of VMs....

Prepping a fresh install
Hello,
Was wondering what everyone does with a new machine or fresh image how does your usual setup go? Do you have a noscript that handles installing all of your tools/software and mounts your network drives? If so can someone share their noscripts would really love to see how everyone does it

Thinking about ditching Windows 10 and installing Ubuntu 18.04 on my machine! Is there anything I should know before going ahead with the installation?
Been using Windows my whole life. Windows 10's been really pissing me off as of late, so I thought I'd change things up a bit. I've used Ubuntu for a few days now on my other PC and am really enjoying it. Should I go ahead and replace my Windows 10? Or is there some other things I should know?

Request: can you moderators add an option to have a custom user flair?
Is it possible for you moderators to add an option so that users can use a custom user flair?
For example, having multiple distribution logos in my user flair.
I was going to add the Arch Linux logo to my flair so that both the Arch Linux logo and the Ubuntu logo could be seen but I, unfortunately, can only have one distribution logo.

System76 launches Lemur Pro, its lightest Linux laptop
System76 has been manufacturing Linux-based PCs for over a decade, and the company continues to pump out new systems for those who prefer the "alternative" operating system to Windows hegemony. With its new Lemur Pro laptop, the company adds to its already formidable lineup of notebooks, desktops, and servers.
The laptop measures 12.6″ x 8.5″ x 0.6″ and weighs 0.99kg, or about 2.2 pounds.
At just 2.2 pounds (and a mere 0.61 inches thick), the Lemur Pro is System76's lightest laptop to date. Between the slim form factor and the latest Intel processors -- not to mention the 73 Whr battery -- the Lemur Pro promises great battery life, though the company is only providing claims in a cheeky fashion (10 hours to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy, 16 hours for reading Wikipedia, 21 hours for coding with VIM).
The Lemur Pro becomes the third System76 laptop to make use of 10th-generation (or Comet Lake) 14nm CPUs, joining the Galago Pro and Darter Pro models in offering either the Core i5-10210U or the Core i7-10510U. It supports up 40GB of RAM and, with a pair of M.2 SSD slots, up to 4TB of storage. It also features a 14.1-inch full HD 1,920x1,080 display, along with a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a USB 3.1 Type-C port with charging capabilities.
Like other System76 systems, the Lemur Pro ships with either Ubuntu or its own Pop!_OS installed. Among its other advantages, the company's OS flavor encrypts its installation and offers full-disk encryption. Like the Galago Pro and Darter Pro, the laptop also ships with open-source Coreboot firmware to replace the company's own BIOS.
System76 is promising an early April arrival for the Lemur Pro, with a starting price tag of $1,099. You can provide your contact info on the company's website to have a chance at first dibs on the new laptop.
