System76 launches Lemur Pro, its lightest Linux laptop
System76 has been manufacturing Linux-based PCs for over a decade, and the company continues to pump out new systems for those who prefer the "alternative" operating system to Windows hegemony. With its new Lemur Pro laptop, the company adds to its already formidable lineup of notebooks, desktops, and servers.
The laptop measures 12.6″ x 8.5″ x 0.6″ and weighs 0.99kg, or about 2.2 pounds.
At just 2.2 pounds (and a mere 0.61 inches thick), the Lemur Pro is System76's lightest laptop to date. Between the slim form factor and the latest Intel processors -- not to mention the 73 Whr battery -- the Lemur Pro promises great battery life, though the company is only providing claims in a cheeky fashion (10 hours to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy, 16 hours for reading Wikipedia, 21 hours for coding with VIM).
The Lemur Pro becomes the third System76 laptop to make use of 10th-generation (or Comet Lake) 14nm CPUs, joining the Galago Pro and Darter Pro models in offering either the Core i5-10210U or the Core i7-10510U. It supports up 40GB of RAM and, with a pair of M.2 SSD slots, up to 4TB of storage. It also features a 14.1-inch full HD 1,920x1,080 display, along with a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a USB 3.1 Type-C port with charging capabilities.
Like other System76 systems, the Lemur Pro ships with either Ubuntu or its own Pop!_OS installed. Among its other advantages, the company's OS flavor encrypts its installation and offers full-disk encryption. Like the Galago Pro and Darter Pro, the laptop also ships with open-source Coreboot firmware to replace the company's own BIOS.
System76 is promising an early April arrival for the Lemur Pro, with a starting price tag of $1,099. You can provide your contact info on the company's website to have a chance at first dibs on the new laptop.

Why does GNOME not have LTS releases like KDE?
It would really benefit developers if GNOME also had an LTS version of itself in the same way that KDE has 5.12 and 5.18 as LTS versions, not just for extension compatibility, but for more polished user experiences across many distros that use GNOME as a default.

Moving to linux
I'm getting ready to ditch windows and move to linux. I have a lot of stuff backed up on an ssd that has only been accessed on windows. Will I have any trouble moving my files over to linux from the ssd?

Ubuntu True Desktop (Feat. Ubuntu 20.04 & GNOME 3.36)
Hello guys,
first time I post on reddit and I wanted to hear opinions from you on what is said in the video I attached.
I would like to add that I do not want to start a distro war or anything like this, just a discussion on what this guy pretending to be an anime girl said.
Is it true that Canonical does not contribute much to the linux Kernel, to gnome and to Xorg?
Why does Alan asks for everyone to stop developing other projects and focus on Ubuntu while they are doing kinda the same? (Flatpacks and Snaps)
I use Ubuntu btw

Help with firewall blocking Linux clients
Hello, I am having problem with a network, the firewall allows the traffic from Windows clients but blocks the traffic from Linux clients.
In order to allow the traffic of a Linux client I have modified the TTL to 128 and I have disabled the timestamp, now, the only difference is the windows size value and the windows scale, Windows uses a windows size value of 64240 with windows scale of 8 and I cannot find how to set these values on Linux.
Thanks for your help.

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, Leap Testing 15.2, & other image *.iso.sha256 files contain no GPG data - Images cannot be cryptographically verified.
For those not aware, Tumbleweed is a rolling release with automated testing before builds are released. From snapshot 20200322-20200324 (maybe before, and may continue) the installation DVD image and others have been missing their GPG signatures. Supposedly this is a known issue and is being worked on.
I don't believe there is anything nefarious going on, but it isn't a good look for OpenSUSE for those of us that are very security observant. I just wanted to make it known in case any that care may have missed this.

Complete newbie to Linux here, can anybody explain how i can install Ubuntu on my laptop.
I am currently using my laptop, which I have been running windows on for about 3 years, and i am about to build a PC. I am going to be migrating my windows licence to my PC, and I will be buying a new SSD for my laptop. The SSD is completely blank, and i would like to install Ubuntu on it.
I have absolutely no idea how I am supposed to install the operating system and all the drivers, so any tips or links to useful sites would be greatly appreciated!

Commandline/sysadmin course via Reddit - r/linuxupskillchallnge
This is a month-long challenge for anyone wanting to build Linux sysadmin skills that I launched via a post here two months ago.
"Daily lessons appear in the sub-reddit /r/linuxupskillchallenge - which is also be used for support/discussion. This is a 'rolling' course repeated each month. Does require some serious commitment, but if gaining/growing these skills was one of your New Years Resolutions, then you now have no excuse! "
The course, in /r/linuxupskillchallenge, is about to 'reset' and start from the beginning again on Monday 6 April, so plenty of time to get yourself organised if you're up for the challenge. Subscribe to the subreddit, and read the "Day 0" posts there.
It's now run for two months:
* Participants? Well, 77 people subscribed to the subreddit for the first month - 599 for the second. Will be _very_ interesting to see how we go in April with so many people being on some sort of lockdown or WFH.
* Feedback has been positive, and I think that the key feature - we're working on a "real server", remote and exposed to the internet - helps in building a "sysadmin mindset".
* Lesson "rollover". Leaving just five lessons "up" at a time has been a bit controversial but for April I'll again run it the same way, as this is a pretty core part of the concept. Note that the raw content is all available at [https://github.com/snori74/linuxupskillchallenge](https://github.com/snori74/linuxupskillchallenge)
* Automation? The "magic" that makes a new lesson appear and the oldest lesson disappear still depends entirely on me getting out of bed and doing it every morning! Working on making a little Python bot however.
