Can i drag and drop file from guest to host on Qemu/kvm with Spice?
Hi, i've setup Spice in my guest (Debian 10 Xfce) and can share clipboard between the guest and host (Debian 10 Gnome). Drag and drop only works 1 way, from host to guest.
Does Spice only support one way or something wrong with my setup or i can drag and drop file from guest to host but the file locates where i dont know?
Thanks for your help!

On a low and technical level, what causes Linux to use (statistically) more battery than Windows?
It is known that, statistically, the battery of a laptop that runs Windows or MacOS lasts much more (even a couple of hours) than a laptop running Linux.
A friend of mine and I were wondering what are the causes of this behavior.
We have not found a definitive explanation that goes into low-level detail, and we would love if someone could enlighten us.
In this brief post we will describe some of findings... We would really like to discuss them.
There might be mistakes: any correction is welcome.
The ACPI standard \[1\] dictates where the ACPI tables should be stored in memory. The BIOS/UEFI is responsible for loading such tables. An OS can later access these tables (reading and writing some values) and perform various power management work.
In our understanding, it seems that laptop vendors often ignore parts of the standard: they work together with Microsoft or Apple to define some "secret" location where to store some custom ACPI tables designated to carry out advanced functionalities.
Some questions:
* Does this all mean that Linux typically isn't able to regulates all ACPI states (power, processor, performance)?
* Why would the vendor do so?
* If the standard is not respected, how does Linux avoid a crash when it parse the ACPI tables and encounters errors?
Suppose that a vendor respects the ACPI standard and correctly implements it.
* In this scenario, has anyone tested whether the battery lasts equally with Windows, MacOS and Linux?
* If they do not last equally, what "custom" ACPI functionalities do Windows or MacOS implement that make the laptop last longer?
Suppose that the problem is not ACPI but Linux:
* Why haven't Linux kernel programmers yet resolved these issues? We say this because, *in our opinion*, it should be essential that an OS (a kernel, in reality) that proposes itself as an alternative to Windows and MacOS has an equal battery usage.

Getting wifi running on a go stream after installing Linux mint (total noob to this).
I recently got a free hp stream and the first thing I did was install mint. It runs beautifully however I can’t for the life of me get the internet to work. I know for a fact it installed the driver because it asked if I wanted to use it and I said yes. I have it tethered through my iPad right now for internet but would like a solid wireless connection. I have no experience with Linux at all and this is my first time so I’m a total noob to all of this.

Looking for a replacement for MightyText. This allows me to send sms messages from my keyboard through my phone.
MightyText works, but I do have issues with it. Also, their subnoscription rate is quite high. If there is a FOSS solution, I'd love to learn about it!
Thanks.
I've tried sending this post earlier but was told it was too short. I have to say that is the first time I have ever had that happen. I hope this extra text solves the problem!
TLDR: need a replacement for Mighty Text and had to pad out the post with text.

Help with teaching son linix
Hi, I got an old compac presario with 1.5gb of ram on it, put Linux Mint Cinnamon on it and gave it to my 10 year old son and told him he can do what he wants with it and he can try to figure out how to put roblox on it. I am new to linux as well.
I work away and my roster has changed to a 4 weeks on 2 weeks off roster so i have to help him with it over the phone.
I have a windows laptop I use to play roblox with my kids to spend time with them. I dont want to dual boot it. But need to learn linix to help him, and him being a kid will need to want to do it.
I was thinking of running linux mint in a virtual machine and running an android emulator for the tablet version of roblox on my laptop so i can talk him through how to do it on his linux laptop.
So I am asking whats the best way to run linux mint in windows without duel booting?
Which android emulator would be easiest to run and update that can run android version of roblox?
Is GOG a good source for other games?
What are some good sources of information to develop the skills required?
Thanks for taking the time to read the wall of text

gaming pads for linux
Hello, I need to find a gaming pad that works like the old razer nostromo. but that works on linux where i can program macros into the device itself and not depend on an application on the system
i used to use the app to program the nostromo in a windows VM and then use it on any machine, which I found to be very convenient. anyone know of such a device?

Remnants of the Precursors public beta and open source release is 6 days away (Easter)
Hello all. I've been on here a few times before but I want to let everyone know the public beta for Remnants of the Precursors, a game under development for about 5 years, is imminent.
This game is written completely in Java and all of the code is going to be open-sourced under a copyleft GPL. There will be different licenses for different media types (code, art, writing and sound) since each of these creators has different wishes about distribution. The game will obviously run in Linux, and I've tuned it so that it will run on a Raspberry Pi.
Remnants of the Precursors is a very polished modernization of the original "Master of Orion" from 1993. Although the beta is not yet available for download, you will be able to get it from itch.io: [https://rayfowler.itch.io/remnants-of-the-precursors](https://rayfowler.itch.io/remnants-of-the-precursors)
That page also gives a decent idea of the art quality from that page although the game is a bit more polished now. The Explorminate gaming website has been streaming the game quite a bit recently as the beta approaches, so there are VODs available if you want to see the gameplay: [https://www.twitch.tv/explorminate/videos](https://www.twitch.tv/explorminate/videos)
If you have an interest in game development or simply want to see what a serious game developed in Java looks like (trust me, I've had a lot of doubters), then you should check out the public beta on Easter. Although I try to centralize all of the discussion about the game to the /r/rotp subreddit, I will respond to any questions about it here as well.

To check this, i also opened libre office writter, and i couldn't find the font there either. Am i doing something wrong?
