Lubuntu 19.10 on AMD A6 APU stuck at 640x480 resolution

Recently installed lubuntu 19.10 on a pc with a AMD A6-6400K APU. In order to get it to boot off usb and also after the installation i had to use the nomodeset option. All the icons are huge and the resolution is set at 640x480 with no other options listed. I checked in additional drivers but there aren't any listed. Can someone help me out?

"Forced lull in kernel development" during the fall of 2011

What happened in the fall of 2011? I was reading [the homepage for Subsurface](https://subsurface-divelog.org) (a project Linus developed) when I came across this tidbit near the bottom:

> In fall of 2011, when a forced lull in kernel development gave him a chance to start a new project, Linux creator Linus Torvalds decided to tackle his frustration with the lack of decent divelog software on Linux.

What "forced" such a lull in kernel development?

Linux on a 8088 with 640kB of RAM

Hi guys. I've been playing around with ELKS on my 8088 laptop. It's a Linux-like kernel intended to be executed on 16 bits machines. And it actually works! You'll find all information in here: https://github.com/jbruchon/elks

I did a short video of some of the stuffs I was able to do on this antique machine: [https://youtu.be/ZDffBj6zY-w?t=687](https://youtu.be/ZDffBj6zY-w?t=687)

If you don't like Youtube, you can watch the video on this Peertube instance: [https://video.hardlimit.com/videos/watch/304e088f-4091-4e53-950f-220c136cda16?start=11m27s](https://video.hardlimit.com/videos/watch/304e088f-4091-4e53-950f-220c136cda16?start=11m27s)

For Spanish-speaking folks, here you have de Spanish version on Youtube: [https://youtu.be/YTW3d0qTA0U?t=687](https://youtu.be/YTW3d0qTA0U?t=687)

And the same on Peertube: [https://video.hardlimit.com/videos/watch/70116036-1b30-421c-a958-79e0cad84131?start=11m27s](https://video.hardlimit.com/videos/watch/70116036-1b30-421c-a958-79e0cad84131?start=11m27s)

The video was edited with Kdenline: [https://kdenlive.org](https://kdenlive.org)

The music was created with LMMS: [https://lmms.io](https://lmms.io)

The audio was recorded and edited with Audacity: [https://www.audacityteam.org](https://www.audacityteam.org)

The subnoscripts were created with Aegisub: [http://www.aegisub.org](http://www.aegisub.org)

And everything was mixed and cooked on Mageia: [https://www.mageia.org](https://www.mageia.org)

Disclaimer: I'm still learning and the result is far from being professional. All these FOSS are able to do way better things!
