When will systemd-homed come to a distro near you?
Hey guys any idea when systemd-homed will be implemented into distros? Perhaps Ubuntu 20.10?
I think the way in which our home folders will now be encrypted on suspend rather than a full hibernation and portable home directories are a ludicrously genius solution.
I am not technical to implement it on my own, so I'd like to have it as an out-of-a-box support.

Your Opinion - What if Linux and GNU Switched To CC0
Creative Commons 0 (CC0) is a license that essentially releases to the work into public domain in countries where the concept of public domain exists and gives a public-domain-like permissive license in countries where there is no public domain or rights can't be waived.
I am a strong believer in the idea of CC0 over GPL because I think we as a society should be able to benefit off of each other's work without restriction. Bare in mind, I am also heavily against profiteering off of such work and am aware of the pitfalls in what would be redistribution for a fee or in other words, preying on ignorance.
I am trying to see what the general Linux community thinks regarding CC0, its benefits, its cons, and whether they think it would be an overall gain to society if GNU, Linux, and more were to switch to this model of release. What would be the long term effects, how would society improve or fall apart as a result of this cataclysmic shift? haha
In my opinion CC0 code is "true" open source if there was such thing.

Webdav and FBX files?
So I just set up my workstation, all configured, so time to work, right?
Wrong.
For some reason I can't read fbx off of my davfs2 mounted NAS. Every other file type (including .zip with copies of all those FBX files) is working perfectly fine. JPGs, PNGs, you mention it. All good. But not FBX for some reason. Of course I tried googling it (DDG, but still), but no results.
That of course blocks my work, cause if I can't copy/read/import FBXs, I'm unable to perform.
Anyone had similar problems? Maybe solution?

Installing Linux on an old thin client
Hello! I happen to own an old WYSE thin client. Currently it runs Windows XP (and does so quite well).
I was wondering if it's possible to install a modern Linux distro onto it (preferably Ubuntu or Fedora flavours), to make it a somewhat up-to-date computer. Problem is it only has 4 gigabyte IDE flash for storage and i cant upgrade it.
Here are some other specs:
* CPU: Sempron 210U (Single-core, 64bit)
* RAM: 2 gigabytes
* GPU: ATI X1200 series
* Storage: 4 gigabyte IDE flash
P.S.: I can install server version, but configuring it for the desktop use is utterly painful, so i dont wanna do that.

"Linux" Youtube channel making scams
I found this on my feed today from a channel simply named "Linux", its a scam and should be reported if you look at the other videos they are nothing related, besides any "BTC giveaway" is pretty much scam nobody is going to give you money out of nowhere.

Why Goodix should be called Badix
YSK: If you've bought a laptop from Lenovo or Dell with a fingerprint reader, it's possible it's a Goodix Fingerprint Device (USB 27c6:55b4). There currently exist NO DRIVERS for this device on Linux. Want to use a linux based OS? Well that piece of hardware is now useless.
After a good hour trying to get this to work on Ubuntu 18.04 I stumbled across a Linux Hardware page informing me it will be impossible. This issue has apparently been raised with Goodix who have politely ignored it.

Programming Macropad? Helpful or not?
**Context:** I am a computer engineering student at the end of my 3rd year. I have been looking for interesting projects to pursue over the summer, and I thought of making a macropad that can basically assist programmers with what they do. My idea isn't very developed, and I just wanted to get an outside perspective to see if my idea might actually be helpful and if people might use the 'product'. The product will be based on WSL/bash, and I thought that r/linux might be the most appropriate place to try and get feedback.
**Idea:** What I have thought till now: This will be a macropad with say 9 keys, and a small display. The user can open a bash terminal on their OS, and the terminal gets "duplicated" on the screen. The macropad comes preloaded with commands like "cd ..", "ls", "cp", "mv" etc. It can (somehow) prompt the user to select files to copy, or move, etc. It can extend functionality to custom commands. Maybe it could also have a "Search the stack" button that when pressed, parses one's voice, and fetches the most appropriate result from our favorite website StackOverflow.

Obviously, my idea is not even close to being developed, and I have not done a tech analysis to see if bash-hardware interaction like this is even possible (especially with windows lmao), but it might be fun. **My main concern** is that with bash, most of these commands are a few letters, and the longer ones can be made into aliases. Can you see a scenario where this might be useful for you? What would you customize this for?

ASCII Art Webcam Effect for Linux
Hi everybody, english is not my first language and i'm still learning, sorry for grammar and spelling mistakes.
Like everybody else in this COVID 19 time, in my work we are practicing social distancing, so, all meetings are online. One coworker was using a background filter in Teams and i want to do the same, unfortunately, filters are not available for linux at this moment, so, i implement my own filter (for fun).
While researching how to implement filters, i found this excellent post:
In this post they use docker whit a model called BodyPix for generating a mask of the background, i did not like this. I remember a model called Deeplab, this model implement semantic image segmentation
[https://github.com/tensorflow/models/tree/master/research/deeplab](https://github.com/tensorflow/models/tree/master/research/deeplab)
So, i get a trained model form the model zoo
[https://github.com/tensorflow/models/blob/master/research/deeplab/g3doc/model\_zoo.md](https://github.com/tensorflow/models/blob/master/research/deeplab/g3doc/model_zoo.md)
I implement it and!!!!
[Input Image](https://preview.redd.it/o84z4fl168u41.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f479a8610aba5cd4ab52591307a057098cb7f59)

[Deeplab v3 inference Mask](https://preview.redd.it/lxprjze368u41.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9cfe804ad652072d26babb80ae0558c9424b607)
Nice! but i find the borders too big for me, so i apply an erode filter

[Deeplab v3 inference Mask + erode](https://preview.redd.it/4ilj0xyr68u41.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc6d1b2217e1b2294987e50851c8ccebe78b58d6)
Better. Next step is mix the input and the mask

[Input + Mask](https://preview.redd.it/h3a0hff678u41.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=25be4946ab83c20210e96c8eb79d658eb1a51c62)
The result was not perfect (good for the work), the latency was ok whit my nvidia video card.
OK Background removal finished.... What i do now ? well... I love ASCII Art! y and found this cool post:
I implement the ASCII Art transformation function in my code and this is the result:

[Result Image](https://preview.redd.it/g0exwg8c88u41.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb7a3b169a004cfeb24909446fc33106c6a4290d)
Pretty cool.
So, next step is make this a make this behave like a Webcam, for that, we use pyfakewebcam and v4l2loopback (like in [elder.dev](https://elder.dev) post) and we get this:
[Result in movement](https://reddit.com/link/g5mnfx/video/4ffqnqwg88u41/player)

What differentiates distros?
I am a seasoned Windows user foraying into the wonderful world of Linux to kill time during this coronavirus lockdown. As a way of getting started , I was surveying thru the various distros available out there. Honestly, the number of options available to choose from makes me go dizzy..
I have been trying to understand exactly differentiates one distro from another. When I see videos introducing distros on youtube, I often find the main focus to be on the look n feel, which I find a little funny to be honest...I am sure theres more to it
The following is what I have gathered so far, but havent been able to find a good way to validate, hence this question to you guys:
Linux models OS like a puzzle set - each module is like a replaceable component. there are several variants for each component. Each distro is a unique combination of these modules.
Is this understanding correct?
