24" iMac Lockdown Project

Hi there everyone,

I have an Early 2008 24" iMac sitting around and it feels like a waste given how great the screen is and how good it looks on a desk.

What suggestions would you have for setting it up as a Sonarr, Lidarr, & Radarr media/download server? Should I keep it terminal only or have a GUI of sorts just to make the screen some sort of feature on my desk? Would also be nice to keep adding to the project with some external storage and maybe setup a backup/file dumping NAS type system.

And then if I go GUI, which distro? Thinking of going for Xubuntu on this one. But I am open to some plans :)

Annotating PDFs with Okular

Since a lot of people might be stuck without ability to print out and take notes on documents, I'd like to point out that Okular offers a range of annotation tools comparable (if not superior) to the pen and paper method.

ZombieTrackerGPS 1.0 released: GPS Track Manager for Linux


I've released a new version of ZombieTrackerGPS, version 1.00. This is the first non-beta version.

ZTGPS is a Linux+KDE native PIM application satisfying the same purpose as Garmin's "BaseCamp" software, which does not run on Linux. It is targeted at cyclists, runners, hikers, light vehicle use, and anyone collecting GPS tracks from handheld units, particularly if you prefer data storage on your own computer to cloud based storage.

The beta versions were using gitlab as a landing page, which was awkward, so I've made a dedicated web site with some screenshots, version history, and other information. I've only tried the site on desktop browsers: it may or may not work on mobile devices.

ZTGPS is Qt based for KDE or LXQt desktops, but (I hope) should work in other desktops to the extent any Qt apps do. It will use the KDE settings (UI colors, etc) in that case.

*Major changes since version 0.96:*

* Undo and /redo for most things (track/point/view/filter changes, some UI state, the program config dialog state, view positions, etc).
* Automatic flag icons applied to tracks. This may be slightly off near convoluted borders due to size and space constraints. This will apply country level flags for almost every nation, and regional (state, prefecture, province, etc) flags for 34 countries.
* Some new query language features, such as an exclusive-or operator, and !~ for "does *not* match regex".
* Added many missing country level flags.
* Added regional flags for these countries in addition to those available in 0.90: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
* Improvements to startup time.

Moving from Mac with purchased ITunes content.. What did you do?

I'm wondering for those who moved from Mac to a Linux machine, how did you handle purchased ITunes content after you switched. I've been contemplating this dilemma (and have regrets ever buying stuff on there - but that was 8+ years ago). My thought was just getting a iPod touch, but wondered what you have done.

Mutt current account label

Is there a way to have mutt (neomutt) show a label for what account I'm on? I only use 3 accounts, so it's not crazy, but it would be nice if I could have "WORK 1" and "WORK 2" or something. Or a different color scheme per account maybe. How do you guys differentiate your accounts?

Any recommended Lunar Calendar for Linux?

I'm looking for a Lunar calendar with some kind of GUI. Something that has a panel applet or something would be awesome, but I would even love to see one that is text and terminal only.
I running Debian based distros; Debian 10, Ubuntu 18, and Linux Mint 19.


Does anyone have a recommendation for this sort of thing? I'm currently learning Python and BASH noscripting, however, I'm pretty far away from making something like this.
Right now I can draw some strange turtle pen art, but that's about it.
