Guide: Install microsoft office 365 via crossover/wine
I’ve seen people asking how to install windows office 365 using wine. The easiest way I’ve found is to use crossover which is a wine based paid application with a free trial that is made by wine developers. I wrote up a guide if it’s helpful for anyone.
The overall steps are to install crossover, and then install office using the 365 .exe installer from microsoft. Again this is the full featured windows version of office. My impression of it is it works but it can be finicky here and there and there is no real guarantee it will work perfectly unless microsoft endorses it.
Crossover is highly recommend since it automated a lot of the annoying configuration and setup with wine. It is a paid solution (but you can fully use it to see if it works with a free trial). With pure wine it may be a lot of work for little gain.
This guide is written for subnoscription based microsoft office 365. However, you may have luck with other versions, and the instructions should still work (just replace office 365 with your version whenever this guide says it).
In short:
1. Download crossover 20 from codeweavers. You need to enter some contact info, but you could use an alias.
2. Download the office 365 .exe installer using a valid office 365 subnoscription (get it from office.com, you will need an browser extension to switch your user agent to windows otherwise the download button won’t be there at all). You could also try one of the annual versions (eg office 2016) but I haven’t tried that myself, if you do the remaining steps it should still be similar.
3. In crossover 20 search for office 365 and follow the steps, all you need to manually do is give it the .exe you got earlier.
4. Agree to whatever is prompted and then finish off the installation
5. Start word/excel/powerpoint up (at this point they should all appear along with your other apps just like you’d expect). You can also start it from crossover itself.
6. Try to sign in to office with your licensed account so word/excel/powerpoint doesn’t lock you out after a few days. It can be finicky, if it doesn’t work try restarting the app and trying again. Do make sure your password is being entered properly, I found copy paste to not be working in that field correctly.
If anyone has any corrections or improvements for this guide feel free to comment and I’ll edit the post.
Edit: Onedrive integration and signing into accounts is unfortunately not perfect and can be a source of lots of errors. For me the applications work perfectly it’s just the syncing that’s broken.

Linux Books Recommendations?
Hi guys, I finished to read my first linux book: "Linux Pocket Guide". I was considering some other lectures, worth mentioning I have like 2 years using linux, but I'd like to deep into it.
Searching on amazon, found Linux Command Line and Linux Bible, both of them seems very interesting to me, also I've taken "Linux Essentials" course on Cisco Netacad, so idk if any of those books are some redundant. I'm open to suggestions.

Windows Weirded Me Out
I've been using Linux Mint for over a month now. I've been wanting to make the switch to Linux for a long time, mostly because Windows is a beta OS with spyware built in, virtually no control over what you can limit the OS to do, and so full of vulnerabilities you could drive a dump truck full of viruses right through it. The only thing that was really keeping me on it was my college requiring Visual Studio for programming, and most of the games I play aren't available on Linux.
Now that I no longer need Visual Studio (I'm looking into learning how to do programming on Linux), am able to play my Windows games through Wine, and most of my web browsing and online stuff could always be done on Linux, I made the switch full time.
The other day, I was looking for a media player that had the same functions as the Nexus Media Player that comes with the Nexus Dock. It basically holds a playlist and when you click on the icon the music starts playing without having to open any programs. It just kind of runs in the background playing your music until you click it again to stop the music. I didn't know what the name of it was, so I switched over to Windows in order to get more info about it, and see if there was an alternative I could find on Linux.
As soon as it loaded to the desktop, I got this weird feeling. As I was looking at it, I started feeling gross, like I was being infected with some kind of weird disease just sitting in front of it. It was kind of like watching some kind of gross reality TV show, and you can't look away, but you can only wince and go, "Ew...yuck." I found the information I was looking for, and quickly switched back over to Linux. Afterwards, I sat for a few moments, feeling this...disgust...like getting drunk out of your mind and waking up the next morning and wondering what the hell that thing is snoring in the bed next to you. I almost had to go take a shower just to make sure none of it got on me.
The thing is, I use Windows at work all day long, every day, and never had an issue with it. But this...it was a just very bizarre experience. I know it's only Windows and all, but it just...weirded me out. This ever happen to anyone else?

Fingerprint scanner driver for Lenovo C940? If not, how to make one?
I've looked in quite a few places but can't find a driver for my Lenovo C940's fingerprint scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 and am fairly new to the whole linux ecosystem. If someone could point me towards one that would be great.
If not, I'm fairly experienced with programming and wouldn't mind delving into the low-level stuff and trying to code a driver so I can contribute if someone could just point me in the right direction that would be great!
I'm pretty sure I tried to the driver here https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/eeoyhi/the\_fingerprint\_reader\_finally\_works\_on\_the/ but to no evail

I'm getting sick of linux.
Like seriously, I've used windows for the majority of my life and I've heard some stuff about linux that bought me in. I tried using ubuntu since it was one of the popular OSes out there and it wasn't really worth it since I keep getting problems with audio drivers. I gave up generally on ubuntu and gave linux mint a try and the audio driver problems were gone, Only thing is I spent literally 3 hours trying to figure out why the nvidia settings wouldn't just work. and I keep failing and failing and literally got no solutions whatsoever. Like, why can't it just function like windows does? being 'open source' doesn't really excuse how hard it is just to install a fucking program from the web..
now one question is: why can't it just function like windows does? like even some linux apps require some hard work to install, so why????

If you are a Youtube content creator making Linux/tech related content, there is a glitch in the system that allows you to gain Millions of views and subs. Youtube is refusing to fix it, so exploit it to force youtube to fix it and spread your reach ti a wider audience.
One of the reasons why Linux is not widely adopted is the fact thay people simply don't know what it is. If you are making tech or Linux based content on youtube, use this exploit to reach a far wider audience while you still can. You will be helping the Linux community grow, you will get more viewer interactions, and will incentivise youtube to fix this exploit.
Simply create community polls with common search terms in the denoscription.

Don't laugh I reinstalled Windows four times yesterday and failed each time because of Windows update
I don't want to go through that process again I already have a USB drive that has four different Linux operating systems I'm willing to sacrifice everything that Windows offers only I'm not sure that I made the drive correctly because I can't seem to get it to boot up and let me choose an operating system. I was using vec2boot or something I can't remember the name of it. But I've got it loaded with a couple extra other programs though that I had had to put on in a hurry. and I'm not sure if I even finish the whole process of loading it because while I did drag and drop all the isos onto the drive I wasn't sure if there was another part of the process that I missed because of that hurry.
Bottom line I have an USB with four different Linux systems including Ubuntu and musix, I think I also have AVLinux or something like that. And then one other but there are other files on there since I had to use my Android and it's for some reason seems to load an Android folder. And all I want to do is get this audio card interface that will allow me to attach an XLR microphone to work but Windows keeps on throwing drivers after drivers into the properties and I can't get rid of them. I'm done with Windows.
Is somebody willing to do a step-by-step thing of what I need to do to load that multi-boot which may include having to delete s off of it I believe it's formatted right I believe everything is correct but if you can go step by step I would really appreciate it. however you can do this however you want to do this I just need to help.I hate video chat, yet I'll video chat with somebody if they find it easier to explain.
It's safe to say I'm done with automated s.
If it helps sabertooth z87 motherboard, i7 4770k processor (never been overclocked) only two ddr3 RAM chips left cuz two of them fried but still 8 gigs, gigabyte GTX 970, focusrite 2i2 solo 3rd gen, and a Linksys ea8500 attached to an AT&t modem. Now if any of that was stupid to give away I'd love to know why.
Am I missing something simple or am I missing something incredibly huge about loading up that multi-boot USB? I'm also willing to absolutely just erase the two solid state drives that I have as they've been erased multiple times already cuz I have a Seagate hard drive backing everything important up. Including my porn.... Levity.

Levity.

Don't laugh I reinstalled Windows four times yesterday and failed...
I don't want to go through that process again I already have a USB drive that has four different Linux operating systems I'm willing to sacrifice...
