Maybe someone here will appreciate this

Someone on my team asked me to approve the PURCHASE of a secureCRT license. I literally had a good laugh after asking the requester why we are paying money for a terminal emulator. His response is that secureCRT will drive efficiencies when having multiple terminals open.

I asked this requester if they had heard of Linux and realized it’s available for free. Will support countless terminal windows across multiple tty’s or even desktops, if that’s their thing.

That wasn’t good enough so I asked them if they heard of putty and it’s ability to support multiple profiles.

I ended up approving the ONE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE USD purchase so someone can feel the perceived comfort of their preferred emulator.

Thought there may be some of you who can appreciate that conversation, as much as I did...

I’ll go back in my hole now.

Alternative to Onedrive?

Hi. I am trying to switch Windows to Linux as my default OS again. I was using Onedrive free version (5gb) to storage my documents and pictures. What are the best alternatives to Onedrive for Linux? I am running Xubuntu.

How to switch to PipeWire while using Sway

1 Install PipeWire. Gentoo-specific example:

emerge --ask media-video/pipewire

Ensure that the pulseaudio USE flag is enabled.

2 Edit /etc/pulse/client.conf and replace the following line:

; autospawn = yes

With:

autospawn = no

3 Add the following line to your sway configuration:

exec --no-startup-id pipewire

4 Restart your system and launch sway with dbus-launch:

dbus-launch --exit-with-session sway

(I placed this command in a bash noscript named s, you could edit sway's entry in your display manager.)

5 Verify that PulseAudio is not running, and pipewire-pulse is:

pactl info > >(grep "Server Name")

The output of this command should be similar to the following:

Server Name: PulseAudio (on PipeWire 0.3.21)

Regardless of how hard it is to get used to. What desktop environment do you think is the most efficient?

Regardless of getting used to it, what environment is your favorite/ think is the most efficient for productivity.

When first installing a distro I installed KDE, because It felt the most similar to Windows.

However, now I want to try something different and was wondering what is the "best" environment. I don't care, that I'll have to get used to it. Sell me your desktop environment!

edit: I didn't expect so many responses, damn. Well thanks to everyone for giving me your opinion

What USB WiFi dongle that are fully linux compatible, zero trouble?

I currently use TPLink TL-WN822N (I choose this because it has cables, not just dongle)

Linux has landed on Mars. The Perseverance rover's helicopter (called Ingenuity) is built on Linux and JPL's open source F' framework

It's mentioned at the end of this IEEE Spectrum article about the Mars landing.

> Anything else you can share with us that engineers might find particularly interesting?

> This the first time we’ll be flying Linux on Mars. We’re actually running on a Linux operating system. The software framework that we’re using is one that we developed at JPL for cubesats and instruments, and we open-sourced it a few years ago. So, you can get the software framework that’s flying on the Mars helicopter, and use it on your own project. It’s kind of an open-source victory, because we’re flying an open-source operating system and an open-source flight software framework and flying commercial parts that you can buy off the shelf if you wanted to do this yourself someday. This is a new thing for JPL because they tend to like what’s very safe and proven, but a lot of people are very excited about it, and we’re really looking forward to doing it.

The F' framework is on GitHub: https://github.com/nasa/fprime
